WMA54 Hotpoint Aquarius drum does not turn during wash or spin

The machine fills with water and I can hear the motor working but the drum does not move during the washing cycle. The drum doesn't move during the spin cycle either. The drive belt is intact and not broken. Any ideas please?

Checked all of the above. Not solved the problem yet. Just before the machine broken down all of the lights on the control panel were flashing in a row up and down. Does this pin point the problem? Thanks.

Sound like the contact points on the timer are probebly dirty or arched to where they are not making good contact. you can take and clean them with a piece of emery cloth if you are mechanically inclined and can take the timer apart. Also there's a set of contacts down by the motor ti check too.
Good Luck,

Start checking the lid switch, if this is stuck the machine wont start.

If the drum does not move at all, the motor, the motor control unit, the motor coupler, the control board may be faulty.

For more details you need to observe if machine is draining and pumping water inside during cycle, see: It doesn't spin

Drum is not turning

Could be the brushes, only way to prove it is to remove the motor and check the brushes for wear.
If they are less than 3 or 4 mm long, then they need replacing. If brushes are o/k, then it is probably a control board fault.

WMA54 Hotpoint Aquarius flashing lights

My wife had the same problem last night. This morning when I turned the m/c on, there was a lot of noise and when I looked underneath, loads of sparking. Closer investigation shows I need new brushes and I imagine that if the drum on your machine is not turning, you do too.

However you said that you can hear the motor? That may indicate a belt problem instead. get someone to turn the machine on it's side and manually turn the drum. If the motor rotates it isn't a belt problem and someone needs to test/repair your motor.

Hope that helps a little.

Hotpoint Aquarius WMA54 very noisy during spin

Hi, if your H/P is noisy on the spin cycle, just open the door and turn the drum a few times. If you feel some play, or kind of loud huming noise, then it is the bearings, very, very common on H/P WMA's.

Washing machine WMA54 Hotpoint sticks on prewash

I realised that the washer was not filling properly with water!  So I pulled it out from the wall and noticed the cold water fill pipe had been squashed and had a kink in it so not enough water was getting through.  I remedied this by pulling the pipes through the under sink cupboard and securing them with gaffer tape,  Hey presto the machine now works again!  Hooray :D

Hi, Does the drum turn during the wash cycle? When it comes to the spin cycle does it go through to the end without the drum turning? It sounds like it could be the motor needs new carbon brushes. Regards, Tom.
