Sony kp51 ws500 red screen, 8 blinks

Sony kp51 ws 500 projection tv
when turned on screen almost immediatley goes to solid red with
no discernible details to be seen then totally shuts off after about
20 - 25 seconds. red light blinks 8 times , pauses and blinks 8 times
again and again.......

    i have the same tv, same problem, and dont know how to fix it. if anyone can help it would be great

    Symptoms show that either Red-Gun (red CRT) or its drive circuit is defective so thats why TV gives solid red on screen and goes to shutt off.

    Shutt off is protective mode and when ever tv will get serious problem, will go to shutt down by its system control chip.

The 8 blinks is pointing to a bad flyback transformer and may be common with this set. (We have one too.)


High voltage error -- blinks 8 times • T8005 is faulty. (D board)

The Blue CRT has shorted which is shutting the set down. Replaceing the Blue CRT should solve the issue. You can get a replacement Blue CRT for the WS500 from www.tvrepairworld.com

Sony kp-ws500 has very fine red and blue horizontal lines across screen tried adjusting convergence, and it didn't do anything
Red and Blue Tube screen drive controls needs to be turned down some, tubes are over driving causeing drive lines.

My Sony KP-46WT500 screen shows the tv image in blue only for a few seconds, then it goes completely blank (as if it were off). Do I need to replace the bulbs?
It is rear projection TV that use 3 picture tubes of red-green-blue to show color picture on tv front screen.
Do you see standby red light blinking when TV shuts off after showing blue image for a while?
If red standby light is blinking, please count it how many times it blinks, there would be 3 seconds pause between blinks so count pause to pause and post it here to find out possible solution.

KP-57WS500 8 blinks will not power on
8 blink error code is usually indicating that the HV transformer ( Flyback) is faulty on the D board. You can get a replacement flyback at the following link with free tech support to explain how to replace it. Heres a link to the correct Flyback for the KP51-65WS500 model sonys.

Sony wega kp51 turns on for 3 secs than off w/ blinking red light
The flashes are fault codes. It means your system is faulty. If it is intermittent then it is more than likely a dust issue. Buy an air duster, spray out the back and restart. Should be fine

If it continues to play up then it will be a repair job

Red CRT is doing short circuit in the neck. You can try to open the front panel and to hit easy the neck with wood or something and to decrease the red screen a bit. If doesn't work then replace the CRT.

57xbr2....tv turns on briefly...solid color screen for a second...then blank?
I had the same problem about a 8 months ago. I searched online and found that there is a problem with one of the color guns. They need to be replaced. I don't remember where I found the information, but there is a number or something to call for this problem. I think that my authorized sony repair man knew of the problem, there are other models that have the same problem. Anyway, sony replaced all three guns in my tv FREE of charge, and my tv was no longer under warranty. They did all repairs and fixed my tv.
