Standby light on my 57"

In most cases the standby light might blink with different rapidity to indicate a fault relevant to the processor. It is possible that most of these indicate that there are errors in the processing section . Since there is a possible short or leak in the circuit the output driver section can take in huge current to trip the SMPS or from advice from the micro processor. Remove the power plugs, discharge all voltage on the panel and make sure that high voltage sections are discharged of the potential stored in capacitors. Look for visible signs of leak or of busted capacitors. Look for bulged capacitors or damaged components- burnt or busted. Use a multimeter to check the continuity or shorting in components, if so detach from circuit and test . If the voltage builds up and the set power ON and then shuts up then the suspected section must be checked in detail.

The processor must have the +5 voltage to the function properly , the +B and secondary voltages also must be checked to infer the fault. Trace with caution and in running through the signal path , circuit trail.

Check for tips to check the SMPS unit:

Convergence chips can be purchased as a kit for these types of tvs. (G**gle it). The repair is very easy with the kit. Usually comes with two ICs and a couple diodes depending on the kit needed. Just solder them in and you're fixed

Also, you may need to do some minor alignment on your tv once you get the convergence kit installed. This is done on the little small box with phillips head dials (one for each color of tube)

I have a Sony 57"

I had a similar problem with my 42 in Philips LCD HDTV. Here was the problem. My Power Supply Board had several bad capacitors. I opened my TV (warranty was expired ofcourse) and found four bulged capacitors on the PSB. Many major electronics companiesPhilips/Magnavox, Sony, Panasonic, and others were sold capacitors that failedin 2-5 years instead of 10-20. Thecapacitors fail prematurely due to a lack of preservatives. Unfortunately, they were installed in allsorts of devices and cause a wide range of failure problems. Here are some options for you. 1. Have it fixed by a professional $$$$$$$??????? (Is itunder warranty?) Remember, TVs CONTAINHIGH VOLTAGE AND CAN KILL YOU! Do this at your own risk. 2. Open your TV and find PSB. (The board that the power cordplugs into) Check for faulty caps. If you find some (bulged or leaking) bad capsreplace the entire board. The entireboard costs around $250 right now because they are in high demand right now. They can be found at tv-part.com but supplies are limited. I would definitely shop around though. 3. Remove and then replace individual faulty caps. This takes some soldering skill. Caps are inexpensive and if you can take care of it yourselfit will save you hundreds. This may be your problem. If you determine that it might be. I have a Tip/How TO tutorialon this site that may also help. Itgives step by step instructions for replacing caps on PSB #715t2432-2. If this isyour board you are in luck. Here is theLink: Fixingthe Philips Turns/shuts off on its own problem. I'm working on uploading pictures to helpguide people though the process as well. Let me know if I can do anything to help. Hope this helps and if it does please rate itaccordingly. Good luck.Kaufman605

My sony kdp-57xbr2 57%22 hdtv turns on and off

The fail safe circuit is protecting your TV You have a voltage drop or open citcuit in one of the components eiuther in the power supply or on the video display boards. Dont keep truning it on in the hope that it will right itself. The opposite may be the case. In fact it can catch fire if you force it to keep trying to fire up... it literally will.

Get a tech to examine it and effect repairs, these problems are not DIY if you have no skills in reading circuit diagrams and handling high tension power and radiation ( which are both present in these TV's.

Est cost currently may be in the $300 region.

Hi I have a sony KDP-57XBR2 television set and the

I had the same problem in blue. I took the right front speaker cover off (pops off) and the access panel on the right side 2 - 4 screws. In the upper right corner is a black plastic box with 2 rows of 3 adjustment screws. All I did was turn one of the "screen" screws (not the "focus" screws). Hope this helps. May only be a temporary fix, but good luck...

Screen turns blue

You may have a bad blue picture tube but there is a way to deal with this first---This is a 2001 model and does not have a light engine---I did one of these with the same problem a week ago---the set has a black plastic block with six controls---three are Focus(red, green, blue) the other 3 controls are Screen controls(red, green, blue) Someone has to remove the entire piece on the front of the set below the screen(usually a plastic part) most of the time it is secured with 3 screws on either side of the set in the back; once you remove the screws the entire piece should pull out(pull from right to left(it will not fall off or come out easy--it is held in with several large plastic pegs) With it removed there is an inspection plate with 4 screws-----the screen/focus block is behind it.

You need to look very closely at the block to identify the focus versus screen controls----one row left to right will be marked Focus and the other row left to right will be marked screen------YOU need to locate the Blue Screen control(they are black like the block) With the set on(be careful) go to a video input with nothing connected---if you see a blue screen as well as the input number turn the BLUE SCREEN CONTROL SLOWLY TO THE LEFT UNTIL THE BLUE is gone.

If this cures the problem you may only be buying yourself some time----if the blue picture tube is bad sooner or later this trouble may return----I have seen sets where this was adjusted and the set worked for a year or more with no repeat of the trouble----replacing the blue tube would likely cost you 400 - 500 parts and labor.

I do this here for free so if this has helped you take a moment and give me a vote here.
