Could be simply a blocked CPU vent, clear with a can of compressed air. Make sure Fan is spinning when you power up the PC.
When the fan is spinning place the back of your hand by the Vent you should feel hot air. If you feel cold air the CPU heatsink may need to be reseated with fresh thermal paste. Worst scenario is the Heatsing has Failed and needs replacing.
If the Fan is not spinning it may have failed or a lump of fluff has jammed it
Open the case, Are the fans, vents, heatsinks clean, free of dust? A little housekeeping may be needed. Improve air flow somehow. Also replace the Thermal Paste on the CPU. Try this little freeware program, SPEEDFAN at : http://www.filehippo.com/download_speedfan/ Boost the fans to 100%.
You should be able to replace the heatsink fairly easily as long as you have a heatsink suited to your CPU for Eg : if you have an LGA 1155 CPU a 1155 or 1156 heatsink will fit but if you try to fit any other sort it may fit but will not be as effective. You should be able to find a quality replacement part from any good computer shop or if you are very cluey and know exactly what you need you may even find it cheaper on ebay or the like. Please note : the larger the heatsink the larger the fan must be to dissipate the heat. I hope this helps.
It is not the motherboard that is cooked it is the processor overheating to correct this problem you need to do the following
Remove the Heatsink from the CPU and re apply heatsink
compound to both the CPU and the heatsink then replace the heatsink onto
the CPU. the reason for the overheating and shutdown is that the
connection between the heatsink and the CPU has become "Aged" and no
longer transfers the heat like it should
ensure that you didn't put the Heatsink on backwords, alot of times these types of errors will occur when the heatsink is improperly installed..
also, check to make sure your ram is fully seated, and all power connections are fully seated.
if you removed any of the hard drive / cd-rom cables, be sure you put them back on correctly (red line to pin 1)
Depends on which fan you are referring to, the case fan or the CPU heatsink and fan? Either can be purchased from a reputable computer centre or online.
Make sure you tell them the make and model to ensure they give you the right one!
I would guess that the CPU overheated if the fans are noisy. I would remove the CPU heatsink clean and reinstall the CPU with the proper contact paste, reinstall the Heatsink along with a new heat sink fan, if that is the one is making noise also. Then see if it will then boot up. If not I am guessing that the CPU was damaged for the fans not workingwell enough.
