SOURCE: Needle won't move

Make sure the clutch motor is powering up. make sure voltage toggle switch is on 110v and not 220v. Also rotation set correctly. Independently, make sure the motor runs. With your hands and motor belt disengaged, attempt to turn the handwheel toward you. If it is moving, then make sure motor is running. It handwheel does not turn it could be the machine. Make sure the stitch length dial is set at 2 or 3 and not 0 or 5. That could be that problem as well.

SOURCE: The presser foot came off Brothers sewing machine

position the foot under the shaft making sure the horizontal pin on the foot is in line with the horizontal groove on the end of presser foot fitting on the shaft. Lower the pressor foot arm and it should snap right on. If not, press it up manually. the directions should be in your manual. If you don't have your manual, you can get it online at www.brother-usa.com

SOURCE: "Lower presser foot" error on SE 270D

This happened to me and I eventually realized that there is a small door flap at the top near the "4" in the threading series that can get stuck open. Normally this flap goes up and down with the presser foot, but if it gets stuck open even when the presser foot is down, tapping it or closing it manually will make the error go away.1_9_2012_12_19_55_am.jpg

How to change sewing for different thicknesses

First, you will need to select a brand new needle of the type suitable for your fabric. Select a proper thread weight and type for your needle and fabric.

Select the proper presser foot for your project/fabric. On some fabrics, you may even want to use a straight stitch needle plate to prevent the fabric from going down the needle hole.

You will want to adjust the upper tension so that the upper and bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric.

Also, probably want to adjust the presser foot pressure so that the presser foot presses harder or lighter (depending on the fabric) so the fabric will feed through evenly, ie both the top and bottom fabrics move together at the same rate. Hint: if it is really thick, like sewing a quilt with batting, a walking foot may be helpful.

Be sure to test on scrap fabric from your project before beginning sewing your project together.

All About Needles

Why is there an extra needle plate supplied with my machine Brother straight stitch plate and presser foot cannot be used with zig-zag or decorative stitch or you will surely break your needle and possible knock the machine out of time!

Brother cs6000i thread tension issue

Logically, the top thread should not be affected by a walking foot as the thread operates independently of the presser foot.

Suggest removing the top thread totally from the machine. ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning. Verify the thread path is correct.

Check that your walking foot is installed correctly--the fork-shaped piece needs to encircle the needle clamp screw.

If you continue to experience problems with the walking foot but none of the other feet, recommend contacting a Brother technician.
