Thanks, but we have tried that. I wonder if the blades are dull? The unit is probably 8 years old. I wonder how long these things last. Not like they used to, anyway?

My dishwasher stinks , I have had other dishwasher but never had that stench.

Maybe it's worth trying an enzyme based drain cleaner in it. It should break down any cooking grease/oil in it and kill off the bacteria that is causing the stink. They are safe for septic tanks and garbage disposals. I would use a dose of the enzyme cleaner the same way as you'd use regular dishwashing cleaner and run a full cycle with the machine empty and see how it goes. If you do try this, please leave feedback and even add it as a tip in the dishwashing section.

Garbage Disposal Smells

What can you do if your garbage disposal starts to stink up the kitchen? Because of the stuff that you put down the disposal and grind up the residue can sometimes start to create a foul odor that can be noticed in and around your kitchen. To combat this problem there are some general things that you can do and also some things that you and grind up in the disposal that will help to keep it smelling great.

One of the things that will make the disposal smell bad is if your dishwasher discharges through the garbage disposal. The food left after the water goes through will soon start to spoil and stink. Make sure that you run your disposal after the dishwasher runs to clean out the food and keep the disposal clean.

Some soft foods like meats and cooked vegetables will also tend to stick to the plate of the garbage disposal. These will cause a smell to develop after a time as they breakdown. To stop this from happening keep harder foods or foods that smell better for last to run down the disposal. This will help to clean the plate and keep the garbage disposal smelling better.

If you are going to be away for a long time, or you are having friends over and want your garbage disposal to smell good, you can use a lemon or lemons rinds. Cut up the lemon and grinds it up before you shut down the disposal. This will have your garbage disposal smelling great!!

There are also commercially produced garbage disposal cleaners, deodorizers, and degreasers, that you and buy at most grocery or hardware stores that are made specifically for this purpose.

I ran my fridgidaire microwave for 15 minutes while it was empty. Now it runs and sounds normal but will not heat food. Any suggestions?

take it in for a proper diagnosis
running a microwave empty for any period is detrimental to the magnatron and causes it to overheat and fail
a diagnosis is needed before a decision is made

Has a bad oder

There are a few ways that people use to clean a smelly dishwasher .. First check the strainer at the bottom of the dishwasher for any food residue .. remove that before treating the washer .. then you can do some or one or all of these to see what works for you
If the strainer is messy, pour a good layer of baking soda in the strainer , then pour in some vinegar, it will foam and clean the strainer .. periodically adding vinegar until the foaming stops.
Put a cup or two of vinegar in the washer and run an empty cycle , use it on hot water cycle.
Put in some bleach and run an empty cycle
Put some lemonaide mix in the washer and run it ..

Good luck

Machine clogged and rust and stink

to help clean the unit, do a large load of whites, extra bleach, extra-super-heavy-duty wash, hot wash and hot rinse. many small loads sometimes cause the unit to "smell up"

Foul odor coming from insinkerator disposal

the only thing that should be used to clean a disposal is "Ice" anything else will / could cause several different problems. Run the water for about 10 seconds, turn the disposal on, put a few handfulls of ice down the drain, when the ice is gone, leave the water running for about 20 seconds. This both cleans the unit and sharpens the blades..

Whirlpool Quiet GU2300XTLS2

Could be a a couple different issues.. Not filling with enough water or food chopper broke or food chopper filter screen clogged.

Check water level:
Run the DW and wait for the main wash to start (water will fill. pause then complete fill) The water should be no more than 1/4 inch below the heating element. If not there..replace water inlet valve.

Inspect food chopper:
Remove lower spray arm and rear water supply tube to upper spray arm. Remove torx screws that secure the sump cover. Remove the rounded cover on the left side to expose the chopper assembly. Inspect for breakage of blockage. There may be an additional plastic screen to remove first.
