I don't think the over crank is a problem.
Why is it shutting off?
Find the owners manual to find out if there is some fault that will shut it down or it may be an engine problem like the choke not releasing after starting.
To find a manual online you will need the make and model number of your generator.
If your generator cannot run normally, please follow the guide in this article to solve your problem.
If diesel generators fail to start, you can analyze the causes from fuel system failure, electric starting system failure, insufficient compression pressure in the cylinder and the low ambient temperature and other factors. https://www.dieselgeneratortech.com/diesel-generators/why-diesel-generator-fail-to-start.html
Overcrank means that it tried to start and couldn't. It will go through 5 crank cycles and then stop with this alarm. Switch to off, hit enter to clear fault and then try to start in manual. Check to make sure you have fuel and pressure is 11 to 14 in WC.
Hi CME, If I understand your description correctly your asking about a CAT engine. If it is controlled by an ECU and has any fault it will refuse to crank. The CAT people do that as a fail safe system. Carry out a diagnostic scan and carry on from the reading it gives you. Regards John
OC means OVERCRANK safety circuit stopped the auto start-up so you wouldn't burn up the starter. There is a reason the generator didn't start. Low battery, not enough fuel pressure, clogged air filter, bad starter... You just have to eliminate as many as you can visually. Rebooting the generator should clear the OC condition and you can try to start it manually.
The 'overcrank' error simply means it tried to start but never actually started. It cranked for an extended period. Check the fuel and starting issues you would normally check to start the engine.
