I can see the pictures in my camera, when memory card is in. But the icon for the memory card no longer shows up on my computers when I insert the memory card directly into the computer ( it used too). Nor is the memory card recognized by the uSB attachment. Is it corrupted? it seems to work in the camera ( cant see the pictures without it).
ALTERNATE WAY TO TRANSFER PHOTOS TO COMPUTER
If your photos are stored on the memory card, then remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into an USB memory card reader. Connect this USB memory card reader and memory card into the USB port of your working computer. Your computer will see this as an USB Mass Storage Device or an external storage device; you can then open the folder on the memory card and copy the photos to your computer. Memory card reader is a handy device and is inexpensive. You can copy photos from other cameras and you can also download photos off your memory card to someone else's computer without the need of installing any programs.

I had the same problem. Nothing seemed to help, I even re-installed Nikon View. This helped, though. After you've connected the USB cable to both computer and camera, twist the camera end of the cable towards front of the camera. It seems like either the cable or the socket in the camera is damaged.
