My left turn indicator clicks repetitively and far faster than the right. The light on the tail light is not as bright and it seems that the defroster on the back window does not work well either. Two repairmen have told me nothing is wrong but it continues - the very fast click when it is on and the light seems dimmer and flashed very quickly as well
The indicator usually ony flashes fast when one of the indicators on the same side is blown, check the other indicators, should only be a blown globe, defroster should be a fuse =)
WHEN 1 SIDE BLINKER FLASHES FASTER (USUALLY FRONT) IT IS NORMALLY CAUSED BY THE OTHER SIDE HAVING A BURNT OUT BULB
ON THE REAR...ONE WILL JUST LIGHT BUT NOT FLASH INDICATING # 2 HAS BLOWN BULB

My guess is that water may have got into the starter solenoid area and maybe there is a bad connection down there. If the dash lights don't stay bright when you try to engage the starter motor then maybe it is an earthing lead with a corroded connection.
If these checks don't get you going then the best way forward is to get a list of fault codes from the onboard diagnostic system and take it from there. You could either go to a VW dealer, or if you are technically minded you could buy a £15 interface cable, download some free "VAG diagnostic software" and run it on a portable computer once you are confident.
If these suggestions do help you solve the problem, please give my reply a rating to help others judge my knowledge / guessing skills.
If they do not, please hold off on the rating and add a comment with more details so I can try to help you further. Cheers, D

IF YOU NEED TO REPLACE YOUR TAIL LIGHT BULB, FIRST OPEN YOUR TRUNK AND REMOVE A SQUARE GRILL FROM THE INSIDE OF YOUR TRUNK, THERE WILL BE A
BLACK KNOB THAT NEEDS TO BE UNSCREWED TOTALLY OUT TO RELEASE THE BACK
LIGHT CASING. NEXT, ALONG THE REAR FENDERS WHERE THE LIGHTS ARE, THERE
ARE TWO GAPS, THE ONE YOU NEED IS THE GAP CLOSEST TO THE HATCH BACK
DOOR. INSERT A BUTTER KNIFE OR A THIN OBJECT UNDER THE BLACK RUBBER.
THE POINT OF INSERTION SHOULD BE WHERE THE TOP GAP MEETS THE LENSE.
THERE IS A RELEASE TAB/CLIP ON THE LIGHT. ONCE YOU PUSH THE TAB(DON'T
BE AFRAID TO PUSH HARD, IT TAKES A LITTLE FORCE TO PULL OUT BUT SOME
TIMES THE LIGHT JUST POPS OUT). AFTER YOU PULL OUT CASING,YOU'LL FIND
TWO LIGHT SWITHCES(ONE IS FOR THE TURN SIGNALS AND OTHER IS YOUR BREAK
LIGHTS). TURN THE LIGHT SWITCH COUNTER CLOCKWISE(ASSUMING IT'S HANGING
UPSIDE DOWN)AND REMOVE. SWITCH OUT LIGHT BULB WITH NEW ONE AUTOZONE HAS
THEM FOR ABOUT $4.00 - PACKAGE OF 2)REPLACE EVERY THING BACK AS YOU
UNINSTALLED IT. ITS RECOMMENDED TO REPLACE ALL BULBS, THAT WAY IT YOU
DON'T HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN LATER WHEN THEY GO OUT. IT'LL SAVE YOU LOTS
OF TIME AND MONEY. HOPE THIS WILL HELP ANYONE SO PRINT AND SAVE IN YOUR
MANUAL FOR LATER USE. ONCE YOU DO THIS AND REMOVE THE LENS YOU WANT TO
SLAP YOURSELF ON HOW EASY IT IS TO DO IT. THE @#%& DEALER WANT YOU
TO LEAVE THE CAR FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS ANF CHARGE $50 FOR A JOB THAT
TAKES2-3 MINUTES. THIS INFORMATION WAS COPIED AND EDITED FROM ANOTHER
vw OWNER. I HAVE USED IT AND IT WORKS LIKE A CHARM!
When replacing the tailight bulbs there is two things you have
to remember, when unscrewing the plastic nut in the back make sure you
hold on to it so it doesn' fall down in the body. secondly when
"carefully" prying the tailight out make sure you lift from what I
would call the 7 O'clock spot if it was a clock, this is where the snap
clips are, DON'T PRY FROM THE TOP this is where the factory tabs are
and if you break them you need a new taillight- when replacing slide the
top (1 o clock) in first and snap in the bottom. No hassles and NO
breaking stuff that costs money!
HORN AND CLICKING
Shifting the wheel did not cause this you have a loose wire in your horn assembly and if airbag equipped as I EXPECT you will need a VW mechanic to remove the steering wheel and fix the crimped horn wire Do No Attempt this yourself you could cause the air bag to deploy unintentionally
