My computer does not shut down

When I ask for a shut down or press the power button, my computer restarts instead of shut down. I configured every command to shut down, no sleep, no restart, only shut down. I bought a full Windows Vista Ultimate and the same situation persists. Please someone could help me?

I have the same problem. Mixtrixx's solution did not work for me. It shuts down after a minute and then 2 seconds later starts back up.

Ok
Gonna try and teach you some basic programming :-).
What the following will do, is create you a Desktop Shutdown Icon, which when you double click on it, will hopefully shut down your PC rather then restart it.
So here's how to do it :-).

1. Right click on your desktop and select new > shortcut.
2. In dialog box type “shutdown –s”
3. Click next to continue and then type a name for shortcut (IE Shut Down PC) and click finish.

Now you should see the shortcut on your desktop and will hopefully solve your problem.

Oh PS where it says "shutdown -s", do not include the quotes :-)

My pc laptop does not start due to error 2000-03000

Try using the Last Known Good Configuration:
  • Remove any CD or DVD from your computer, power down, then power up.
  • Do one of the following:
    • If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you'll need to try again by shutting down and restarting your computer.
    • If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to highlight the operating system you want to start, and then press F8.
  • On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight Last Known Good Configuration (advanced), and then press Enter.
  • If your computer has more than one operating system installed, use the arrow keys to highlight the operating system that you want to start by using Last Known Good Configuration, and then press Enter. Windows will then resume starting normally

Now insert any bootable Operating System Disc and restart the computer to boot from the CD.

If the computer is not truing in first attempt then check for the earthing is OK or not. Then check the power is correctly supplying or not. There may be a chance in loose connection of the switch of your cabinet. If the system is shutting down when you give restart, then it may be problem of power. Daughter turned my laptop off while i was making tea now im unable to start it says its repairing the problem but stays on that page and does nothing

Shut it off completely and restart. Depending on the make of the laptop either press a special button or press the start button without lifting the finger until it goes off. If It does not go off, simple take off the power cable and unhook the battery from the bottom of the computer. Reattach power and restart normally. With luck it will be OK enjoy your tea.
If on startup the computer gives you a baffling list of startup choices on a black screen, click the up or down arrows to choose LAST GOOD CONFIGURATION (or some similar wording). If the problem persists check how to repair the installation without losing your data using a Windows installation disc. Better ask a support technician or a tech-savvy friend about that.

    Laptop won't shut down normally!

You should go to the BIOS and load the default settings. Also, check your device manager to check if all hardware is installed and functioning properly (no conflicts, etc).
