My Sears Kenmore Dryer has stopped spinning!

I have a model 417.91702000 Serial number xe14002479
For a while it was making a squeaking / Grinding noise. So I was going to grease the bearings now it has stopped all together. I opened it up and the belt that is around the drum is still in tack. Is it the motor? I am a stay at home mom and I have been fixing other things around the house. I am trying to save money by fixing it myself. I feel I am pretty handy I fixed my Fridge and dishwasher by myself. So any info would help greatly. Thanks

sounds like the bearings need replaced, when replacing bearings you need to replace all of them to ensure proper function and life longevity.

SOURCE: Dryer Squeaks

ok your having the begings of a rear bearing problem now let me tell you whats happing if you pull the dryer out and look about at the middle of where the drum is at the back then you will see a silver small rectangle peice in the middle of that is what looks like a small finger with a steel ball under it on the little ledge there should be a little pile of black dust the little finger is making the little ball cut into the back of the rear bearing but the rear bearing is still good now get you a little can of spray lithem grease clean the dust off turn the dryer on and spray that little ball till its coated then every time you hear it squel repeat the proceadure untill one day it wont stop then we will have to change it and on that day you better have some help lol

I had the same problem and it went on few months. Then the final spin didn't work and I could smell something buring. Called AHS and they sent a tech, who said it was the bearing. Cost about $350. to fix. Will be replacing the washer soon, I don't think we paid too much more than this at the scratch and dent place.

SOURCE: washer does not spin

You must replace the direct drive coupling between the motor and transmission. About $30.00

How do I tell how old my kenmore dryer is?

What exactly is this 'loud noise'? Is it a constant grinding or rumble sound that changes with drum speed or is is an occasional thumping, banging noise as the drum speeds up or slows down? A grinding or rumble is often a drum bearing and Thumping is commonly the 'suspension' the drum rides in to stop it 'walking across the room or shaking itself to pieces as it goes into high spin speeds. Your machine's age will only affect you if it is a very old machine and parts are difficult to find.
