HP OfficeJet Pro L7580 will not scan

Installed on HP laptop w Vista 64. Click "HP Solution Center-->Scan Document OR Scan Picture" and a "Windows"-type error message appears: "An unexpected internal error has occurred. Click OK to close the program, and then try 1 of the following: 1) RESTART, 2) RESTART PC & TRY AGAIN or 3) REINSTALL the photo and imaging software and try again." Tried #1 and #2....same result. Press SCAN button on HP 7580 and get "No Scan Options: Refer to Device Documentation to Troubleshoot." Unfortunately, there is no such error message in the "Device Documentation." As far as I know, I have downloaded all available updates. Did not see any possible solutions at HP support forums. Thank you BIG HP fan herb

Frankly Vista is a dog, and I'm not surprised at your difficulty. Have you tried installing the printer from Vista itself, rather than using the Printer CD? This can work if the printer CD is for XP (as many are).

When I attempt to scan pics or any document to my computer, the display reads "No scan options. Refer to device documentation to troubleshoot." Of coarse, I lost my user's manual in my move. How...

You need to scan another way

On computer click Start >>>> click Programs/All Programs >>>> click HP >>>> click 'hp solution center' or 'hp director' to open it >>>> click "scan a document" >>>> click "scan" >>>> click "finish' or 'accept' to complete the scan

If above programs are not there, it seems full software is not installed in computer. You need to install full feature software through cd

How to scan with an HP J4580

Do you have the full-feature software installed? What OS is on your computer? Assuming you have the full-feature software installed (installed before connecting the printer to the computer) and a direct USB connection (with a good cable and functioning USB port), you have two choices.

Start the scan from the computer (have the document face down on the glass or face up in the ADF (for models with the document feed) and the all-in-one ready. For this, with Windows, launch the HP Solution Center (Start > All Programs > HP > HP Solution Center), then click either the Scan Photo or Scan Document button in the program. Set the desired scan settings (this should come up if it wasn't turned off) then click Scan.

Alternatively, you can start the scan from the button (it's the one closest to the button with an X (cancel) on the all-in-one and that will launch the HP Solution Center (assuming HP Digital Imaging Monitor is running). The scan menu will also come up on the printer screen with requests for more setting information (destination etc.)

With Win7 and Vista, Paint will acquire scans (Import from Camera or Scanner). Some versions of Vista and most of Win7 also include Windows Fax and Scan which will also handle new scans.

I hope this helps.

Looks like you have saved the method as 'default'. If you open HP Solution Center and go to "Settings" and then choose "Scan settings" you can figure out the details from there. At some point, you choose not to save this as default and ask it to prompt each time..

I have the scan button but it will not allow me to

Hi, The reason you're getting this is because you need to have compatible software installed on your computer. The disk that your printer came with will come with the relevant software but you might want to check the HP website for something more up to date as they have released fixes over time. Once you have that installed I would use the proper software to request the scan from the printer rather than trying to use the scan button on the printer itself. To be honest I have no idea why HP put that button on there as it makes things more complicated than they need to be. Oh, also worth noting that any software that can work with TWAIN compliant scanners should be able to see and use your L7580 without anything new so it may be worth checking anything already installed on your computer to see if it already does what you want. Hope that helps. Martin

When I try to scan, it reads "No Scan Options".

Try scanning from the solution center. If successful, check the scan button settings if you can see applications available on the 'Destination List'. Add all the application to the right side. Close the solution center and try to scan.
