Im looking for the best avr reciever..for the money...i have a bigger room with sloped ceilings and the room echoes a little...its the liv room, kitchen,dinning room all rolled into one...about 20x20 cielings sloping from 9 ft to 18 ft then straight into upper loft...any suggestions....my old denon avr 3300 was great its just 10 years old....back then it was a better reciever....

place your subwoofer approx 1m or 3 feet away from your media player, then one speaker below your TV, the other two in either corner in the front and the other two in either corner at the back of the room. try not to mount them too high, approx 3 feet off the ground or the same hight as your head when seated. this will give you the best sound quality. if the speaker is the front or back seem a little far you should be able to set the volume on each of them. if the back is further than the front then set the back speakers louder than the front ones or vis versa.

If you have your video equiptment hooked to your reciever input, then, out to TV, This isn't the best way to go. Of course it depends on what you have for input and output on your TV but, the ideal way to hook your system would be to hook all video equiptment to TV, ie:, cable/sat box, DVD player, etc., to TV via, HDMI, Composite, RCA, etc., then run your digital optical out from TV to reciever. You would use the TV's menu to choose what you watch and would only have one input(audio) to reciever. Some recievers are set up to transfer video, but, it uses more cables, creates more connections, and more room for error.

Excessive room echo is caused primarily by two things - hard surfaces and high ceilings. The worst materials are glass, marble and concrete block. Next to this is drywall. The more hard surfaces you have, the worse the echo will be. For example an entirely drywall room is much worse than one with drywall walls and an acoustic tile ceiling. The sound simply bounces from the back wall, to the front, to the ceiling, to the floor, back to the walls, floor, ceiling and so on. The solution of course is to reduce the amount of hard surface area.You need to coat the wall with some sort of acoustical wall treatment. Carpet on the walls will work or you can purchase materials for that purpose. How much to install and how much area to cover will require experimentation. There are many choices and this is just one.

Ceiling Fan Direction These recommendations depend actually on the height and size of the room; the season; and the activity taking place in the room.

The basic fact of nature is that warm air rises to the top and cold air settles on the bottom. Air settles in layers from warm at the top to cold at the bottom, if left alone at equilibrium.

Ceiling fan recommendations:

In the winter
Set the fan to run counterclockwise (reverse; this looks clockwise as you are looking up). This will redirect the warm air from the ceiling and down the walls and into the living space where the people actually are. In a house, you would run the fan at a low speed so that you don't actually cool the warm air that you are moving downward. If you have a high ceiling, or are trying to heat a hall or a church, you may want to increase the fan speed so that the warm air will reach the living space as long as the fan speed does not create an unwanted downdraft at the people below. In the summer
In a room of normal height (8 - 10 ft), you should operate your fan so that it turns clockwise (this looks counterclockwise as you are looking up), causing a more directed downdraft, especially with the fan running slightly faster. This causes a wind-chill effect because the skin evaporates slight amounts of water from the sweat glands and thereby provides cooling through the skin's surface. However, the air is only moved but not cooled! You may find that you can turn your thermostat down a degree or two and save more money on energy costs. The air blowing down won't actually cool the room though, so you should turn the fan off when there are no people (or animals) in the room. In a high hall or church
It may be best NOT to run the fans at all in summer. This lowers the demand for cooling since the hot layer on top is an excellent insulation between the cool air near the floor (and the people) and the hot roof and outside.

A large, tall manufacturing hall would typically have different goals. There one would have a floor full of heat producing machinery plus the people operating it, working hard and welcoming a bit of a breeze. Then it would make sense to run the fans at fairly high speed to create a certain and directed downdraft. And with the shifts going throughout the days of the week, the fans should be running all the time and maybe in all seasons.

Finally, fans typically use 80-100 watts. When used properly, ceiling fans can really help to optimize the comfort level of the people and save energy and money.

The floor/roof loads above will be a bigger unknown than the ceiling itself. The wall MAY be replacable with properly sized beam/column combinations but you will need to have a design professional look for adauate footing size, calculate floor loads (and roof loads if any), and size the beam/column system to support ALL of the loads now carried by the wall. If you have access to the origional floor and roof framing plans they will be a great help, otherwise someone will need to do some investigating to make thoes design judgements.
In 23 years working as a building inspector I'v seen way too many structural problems caused by inadaquate beam installations, Its worth the time and money to do it right.

The slope is measured off the horizontal plane. A 45 degree slope would rise 12 inches for every 12 inches of horizontal travel in this example. If the slope is too great try checking kits made by Fanimation. The Fanimation SCK52 - 52 Degree Ceiling Slope Ceiling Fan Kit will go up to a 52 degree angle ceiling and will fit most downrods. The hampton bay fans are very popular and should work just fine with this kit.

I used to have that very reciever, and If I recall correctly, the remote that comes with it (the little blue and black one) can't control other components. Only the bigger remote (that came with the VR-4070 and VR-4090) can be programmed. I will do a little more research later to find out for sure, though (I actually still have my remote for that thing!!).
