Are you playing a TrueHD format disc? Just like DTS 5.1 or any other format if your disc isnt coded in TRUEHD then your not going to get it. DTS or other formats cannot be "converted" to TrueHD like the video portion of a standard def disc. At this point there arent alot of TrueHD discs out but be paitent, this may change. Or not, due to the fact there are other "lossless" formats that may be more widely adopted. Sort of like DTS and THX were when DVD first came out. Hope this helps.

Measure all hdmi inputs and output HPD Voltage by a needle probe.
Steps:
(1)unplug the amp.
(2)open the cover.
(3)connect a blu ray player to hdmi input & a mon to output, otherwise no 5V.
(4)negative probe connected to the large heat sink with large power transistors mounted by a crocodile clip.
(5)postive probe to right hand side last pin called hot plug detect, HPD.
(6)If it has 5V, hdmi board is OK. Check HDMI cables(7)If no 5V, check power to this board. Go to you tube:How to fix an Onkyo receiver - TX-SR606 . All large capacitors next to SMPS IC are replaced.
(8) If not OK, replace Q 8595-Q8597.
(9)If not OK, replace Q8501,sil9135.(Onkyo won't help you to replace this HDMI decoding Chip. A HDMI board replacement instead, the company policy.)

This works for some Onkyo receivers Hold down the VCR buttton on the receiver (not remote) and press the main power/standby switch.

The only thing I can think of is that the microphone that detects speaker signals is in a position that blocks the sound from that speaker. When it's testing there should be no noise from anything or anyone.

The chances are that you have selected an incorrect sound setting or not switched it on, for the HDMI you are using. With Onkyo receivers each connection will have it own settings for video and sound. You just need to look in the manual as to how to select the settings.

Does any good sound come through headphones, if you plug any in?

Hello, I am sorry about your issue. I suggest that you reset the receiver. With the receiver on press and hold vcr/dvr and then press on/standby. When the display shows clear let go. The receiver will shut down. Unplug for 30 seconds. Plug back in and turn on. Test audio. This procedure will bring the unit back to factory defaults. It's often a problem with some of the soldering joints underneath the Digital Sound Processor (DSP). Need to be fixed at a service center.

Same problem. Does the internal Cooling fan turn on?

Are you connected by HDMI? If so, your HDMI board may be faulty. I was having major drop outs with picture and sound until I got it replaced.

Hello, When you say Zone 2 doesn't show up do you mean that its not there at all, or is it just greyed out? I would suggest a reset of the unit it seems as though either way it could be a glitch. Thanks, FJD
