Toshiba store and gowont playon dvd player

I have a 500 gig toshba external , plug and play , storage drive. itwill not open on my dvd player

  • dianne brijlal Jun 06, 2012

My HP laptop successfully recognises the drive, its plays on every desktop/ laptop i plugged it into..problem is that my pioneer dvd player does not pick up the drive at at all. Blue light on the drive is on , but the dvd player is just NILL.
Yet it picks up my older Toshiba portable storage. Plugged it directly into my LG LED TV ( forgot it also has usb ports)..and the TV picks up the new drive, AND the older one. Why the dvd player wont read it ...anyone??? Its gonna bother me until i know WHY.

Does the computer recognize the 500GB Drive when you plug it into your usb port?

Click Start/My Computer and see if your 500GB drive is listed as a device, if not that's a problem.

Try using a different usb port. Also try using the 500GB drive on another computer.

If it's gone belly up, it's not going to work.

SOURCE: verbatim 500 gig hard drive not reading

Hi,

Clicking is generally a bad sign as it indicates the harddrive is seeking over and over not getting a read of the pallets (think arm on a record player swinging back and forth with no needle).

Good news is if it's just the control cicuitry the drive can usually be recovered for under $500. If the failure is internal rates can range from $700-$5000 depending on the level and type of damage.

If you think you would want to try either of these methods get back to me and I can recommend appropriate service providers for either.

Sorry it's not better news,

Chris

SOURCE: Problem with seeing files on external Hard drive

What has happened is that your file system on the hard drive became corrupt becasue windows had not updated the MFT on the drive. THe MFT is a table of contents regarding whats on your drive.

What happened is similar to someone cutting out a few pages of the table of contents in a book that has a lot of pages.

Windows tried to fix this stupid programming method by asking people to always use the "safely remove hardware" button in the taskbar to force it to update the MFT.
In this case yur a victim of the Hard Discs MFT not updating properly probably because software was accessing the drive when it was disconnected from the machine.

You need to run chkdsk to have it rebuild your MFT.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265 <-- How to perform Check disk
*NOTE: Remember to use the drive letter that the USB External is on.. Not just type CHKDSK. It will default to drive C to scan for errors. ex: c:\chkdsk g: (where g is the drive your external usb is)
If you get an error like "CHKDSK is not available for RAW drives.. see my notes below.
Beware that it will take a LONG TIME to perform this procedure.

If this doesn't fix it.. contact a data recovery specialist.. It's worth the cost. There are two types. Simple and Advanced.
Simple= recovering files your deleted with the delete button (fairly easy with the right software)
Advanced = recovering files from a hard disk crash or file system corruption. (Not easy and very time consuming)

SOURCE: my wd 500 gig external hard drive keeps blinking

How do you have it connected to your PC? USB or Firewire? try plugging it in to different slots or try plugging it in on another computer to further isolate the problem. some external drives requires power adapter to work so make sure that you're using the power adapter if it comes with the device. if not, there might be something wrong with the device specially if it was working before

SOURCE: I cannot see my free agent external drive

Thanks for your responses...

I've pretty much decided that it must be a hardware problem within the harddrive itself...Can anyone lead me in the right direction to maybe take out the harddrive to put into another external shell in order to hopefully recover my data? Again I'm using a Seagate Freeagent Desktop 500GB external harddrive.

I have bought a second hand toshiba external cd player xm 1902b. it wont play dvd's. is it not set up to do so?

This is a CD-ROM drive. CD drives will not read DVDs. You need a DVD-RW if you're going to be burning DVDs or if you're only going to be watching DVDs then a DVD-ROM drive would work.

Can the telefunken dvd player play movies from a external hardrive?

An external hard drive has to be installed into a system like a PC before it can be used as a storage device. however if the external hard disk is a memory storage type with a usb connectivity which is available on your telefunken DVD , then it might be able to mate with the DVD processor to display the files and play.
You have not mentioned any details of the DVD or the Hard disk.

Lacie 500 gig external hard drive

Yikes 500 GB is a lot of data to lose, especially if you have no back-ups. In case you have never seen the inside of one, a hard drive is a series of metallic/magnetized platters on a spindle and a series of arms (resembling those of a record player) for each platter which record and retrieve data in the storage sectors formatted on the drive platters. The top 3 enemies of hard drives are: Impacts - Heat - Magnetic Objects . . . these top 3 all prove fatal to your drives operation. I am guessing the impact from when you dropped your HDD jarred the arms from their position or even may have broken the reader head. The bigger the storage of the drive, the more fragile they seem to be. Once an arm is dislodged or broken, the drive cannot function... the damage is mechanical. An arm knocked from its point of origin when not in use or jarred durring data access can no longer properly know where data is or fins its original position. Dont waste time on file recovery programs if this is the case, they require an operational drive to scan leftover data. . if the damage is to one of the platters, you might have luck with a software recovery application, but the process is very very slow and will take days. You can try taking it to data recovery experts and it will cost you usually around $1.00-5.00 per gigabyte - pretty costly. My advice, See if you can RMA the drive if it was under warranty) to get a new drive . . . or even have the data retrieved if it was that important . . . other than that, move on and be more careful with external drives in the future. Look for drives that have good impact ratings if you have a propensity for clumsiness, even then, handle with care.

Bbc i player won't play on archos 5

that is because it it incompatible with the version of flash that is used by the archos. unless archos change that with a future update or iplayer suddenly becomes more backwards-compatible in the future then don't expect this to change.

I just bought an Aveis 1080p upconverting DVD player and when i put my USB device in it doesn't it says unsupported. What kind of USB device should I get

USB stick has to be formated in FAT32 file system.
Some players will only play sticks up to 2 Gigs, some may recognize and play video files even from external hard drives.
Aveis is a no name player, so who knows if it'll play anything besides MP3 and JPG.

I'd go with a Pioneer or Coby (both at Best Buy); both play DivX format from sticks and external hard drives; no MPEG-4 or MKV files though, which is a bummer (did not find any player under $100 that does.)
I tried them both (also tried Philips and Toshiba), but the Pioneer had far the best picture and sound amongst all of them. Coby was OK, but the display broke.
