Print spooler stopped working

Using windows xp. can not get any of my printers to work until I can get the print spooler service to start.

  • Bill Jones May 17, 2012

when I try to start the service, I get error 1068 dependency service or group failed to start. I believe it has something to do with "lexbce". Years ago I had a lexmark all-in-one running on this computer and my toshiba satellite. It may have something to do with what may be in the printer memory. I don't know. To date nothing I have tried has worked. Looking for a solution.

  • Bill Jones May 19, 2012

all printers and drivers have been removed. I have checked everything in windows for drivers and fragments of driver files and found nothing. simply can not install a different printer until I can get the print spooler to work.

What error message do you get, if it just says the service isn't started then go press with windows key and the r key at the same time. in the run box type services.msc and press enter. scroll down the list until you find print spooler service and right click and click start service, and make sure it's set to automatic.

Testimonial: "already tried this. my final solution was to reinstall everything like it was right out of the box. the problem had to do with previously installing a lexmark printer. upon installing any kind of lexmark printer, it installs a file named "lexbce" and this can not be removed for some reason. I tried this theory on three different computers. to anyone reading this, word of caution on lexmark printers, unless you find a better solution, this will happen to yours as well. "

have you uninstalled all the lexmark drivers from your computer? if not, please do so and uninstall any software for printers that are no longer in use. The problem may be that you have multiple programs trying to access the service, or it could be that when you uninstalled one of the printers it took whatever service dependency with it. i'd remove any old printer drivers and reinstall the drivers for the current printer.

actually before you take the time to download teamviewer try this:

    1. go to command prompt
    2. type "sc config spooler depend= RPCSS start= Auto"
note: the space between = and RPCSS/ = and Auto are very important or this will not work.
    3. type "net start spooler" no quotes

SOURCE: Printing Error

Try this:

1. Power off the printer
2. After re-boot: click start, control panel, printers & faxes and delete the printer.
3. Re-install the printer with the original driver disc.
There are many suggested solutions to spool problems but try this first. If this does not work we'll go to the other solutions.

I have an HP 1020 printer. I cannot undertake any operation as the words " printer spooler not running " continues to appear on the screen. I tried to delete the printer and reinstall , without...

Hi there,
Print spooler not running is not the printer error, it happens when the print spooler service starts working in windows, For making it enable you dont have to reinstall the drivers for the printer, as print spooler service is for every printer, even if you put another printer the result will be the same
To Enable Print Spooler Open Control Panel
Go to administrative Tools>Services (For Windows XP Users)
Control Panel\System and Security\Administrative Tools( for windows 7 users)
Open Services Find Print Spooler in the list
Right click the service and make it stop, if its already stop set it to Start and then again give prints
Double click on the service and set "Startup type to AUTOMATIC". You should now be able to get prints from your printer
Now restart your desktop/laptop and check if the service is still working by giving any test print.
Hope it will solve your issue

My printer doesn't work as it should be beacause i tried to print a page, i pressed ok but it didn't come out

Hi Bianca!
What you should do is to clear the print spooler - the printer queue. If you're using windows, right click on my computer and then press in "Manage", in the opened window go to "Services and Applications" and then "Services". go down the alphabetical list in the right window pane until you come to the service with the name "Print Spooler". Right-click this entry, then select "stop". This will stop the service that holds your print queues. Leave this window open, press on start and then type "spool" in the search bar (or in the "Run" command line if it's windows xp) and press enter. In the opened window, go to a folder named "PRINTERS", and Delete every file within this folder to empty the jammed print queue (pressing the "ctrl" and "a" keys will select all files and then you can just
hit "delete"). Close the explorer window now that we have emptied the cleared spool files, and return to your Services window. we must re-start the Print spool service, and do so by right-clicking the Print Spool entry and selecting "Start" from the list. Close the services window and try printing again. It should work now. Good luck!

Print spooler problem cannot delete printer jobs

Hi there
You can try see if this may do it.

Go to Start / Run and type in "services.msc" without quotation marks, then press Enter or click OK.

In the window that opens (Services) look for "Print Spooler" on the right

Right-click "Print Spooler" and select "Properties".

Click on the "Recovery" tab and change all 3 drop-down boxes to "Restart The Service".

Make sure the 2 text boxes underneath say "1" in them.

Click Ok until you are back at the Services window, close it and you're good to go.

Go back into the properties of the "Print Spooler" tab and be sure to click Start to restart the Print Spooler service and it will restart the service immediately.

The Print spooler depends on the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service. Is this service disabled? Go to services.msc look for RPC. Check state: Automatic

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

"fatal print spooler error" error message

Completely uninstall the printer driver and install again. If this does not work, there is a corruption in the windows registry or in the print spooler cache files.

For a temporary workaround, disable print spooling. But, if you do, you will need to remember to never close an application you print from until printing is actually finished.

Can't reinstall printer- ''print spooler is not working''

If you have the windows disk for it , Save everything important to disks.  Put WIndows  disk into machine and tell it to install. It will find you version and ask if you wish to repair it, Say yes.   If you have Xp pro just "Restore" computer to the date before the problem started. If you have neither one. Save you work and then reinstall everything using your backup disks.

Printer is not working.

Hi Surenderpdsi

It sounds as if the printer spooler needs re-starting.

This is the path to the printer spooler service,

Windows XP Path (category view)
Start – Control Panel – Performance and maintenance – Administrative tools – Services.

Windows Vista Path (category view)
Start – Control Panel – System and Maintenance – Administrative tool – Services.

Once in Services both XP and Vista are the same.

Look down the list till you find Printer Spooler.

Once found, right click your mouse on Print Spooler and select Properties.

In the properties box that open the service status should read “Started” if not click on start.

If it says the spooler is started click stop, wait till the spooler has stopped then click start.
This will re-start the spooler and should fix your problem.

Hope this helps,

MK Support.

HP print spooler problem and error 1068. Want my printer back!!!

hi! Print Spooler is actually a service for your Operating system-
Try this

Click on start and click on run
in the open box type in services.msc and your services local window should open, scroll down and look for print spooler, highlight it and do a right click and on the dropdown menu left click on stop and it will go to a process of stopping the service and then right click back and click on start. if you get an error message about print spooling or spooler, then that means you have a problem with the operating system. call or go to microsoft help and support online in that case. and RPC server unavailable error has something to do with a network printer. but i believe you setup the printer locally.
