Hp LaserJet 1000 series printer error message on front door cover and toner cartridge missing

With an error message on front door cover and toner cartridge missing my dependable printer of 6 years is not working. I have tried reinstalling, using a new cartridge, etc. without luck. I have a 1000 series not 1010

Yes, I have used genuine HP cartridges. This same cartridge had been working. I also used it in another printer and it worked. I borrowed a cartridge from another printer and this printer did not work.

I have tried to reinstall the drivers from the CD many times.

  • franklinstah Jan 02, 2009

Hi..
ijust solved this issue

WHOA ...

my printer is HP 1020,, and i was printing a huge number of sheets, which USED TO GET STUCK IN AGAGIN AN AGIAN... coz, i was using a low quality damned paper..

now,, it began to gave error ,tht either the front cover door not closed , or its toner cartridge missing.

Well,, simple solution for me was (which is basic i think)

>> Remove the metallic plate on the back of the printer
>>there you 'll find , on the right side, near the socket for poer cable, a "lever" like thing, thats the lever for the "barrier" between the SENSOR... move it and u'll get an idea..
>> if its jammed ,, then free it..
(mine was stuck into dont know wht, and i freed it, and all is fine)

>> if spring adjusment is wrong, correst it(you may get idea by moving it again n again, whether it comes bbacl to its orgignal position or not...

> remore the tonor cartidge and insert it back while looking on the lever movements.... and you ll get whats the matter with it..

PLEASE note it,,, that i think,, the sensors are NEVER damaged !!! mind it.....my knowlegde says , sensors are hardly damaged ..

-----Adios.... Tauseem Omer...Ravian Kemcolian.

I followed tauseefomer's advice and opened the back metalic panel; I found a small piece of paper jammed in the bottom black rollers which, once removed, cleared the error message on front door cover/ cartridge. It is now printing normally!

The hp laserjet 1020 the front cover door open or the toner cartridge is missing

I have one of those printers. Can you explain a bit more? Is this the message on your PC when you try to print? Open top cover, carefully remove toner cartridge and then plow out dust with canned air. (Do this outdoors to keep from breathing it) Then examine the integrity of the door. When you put it all back, does it run briefly then stop? Power cycle printer and reboot PC as well.

How can fix this error. i seen this "the hp laser jet 1018 has the front cover door open or the toner cartridge is missing"

Hello !!

For tha particular error you are facing, here is the reason. These printers have a switch that triggers an interrupt when the toner door is closed. Usually there is an arm on the door that pushes the switch. It is quite sensitive and delicate. Then sometimes there is a tab on the printer's toner and if that breaks off then that error will be generated.

But in your case as you have not removed or inserted the toner, I think option 1 is applicable to you.

Now, if this printer is in warranty you should send it to HP for Free repair/replacement.

HP LaserJet 1020 won't print. Error: HP LaserJet 1020 has the front cover door open or the toner cartridge is missing. The door is closed and the toner crtridge is installed properly. I tried to upgrade...

Did this just suddenly happen or was it after you replaced the toner cartridge or opened the door?
I have found that if the toner cartridge is not completly positioned into the printer, it can give this error.

Hp laser jet 1018 giving error that front door is open or toner cartridge is missing

If you are using a non genuine HP cartridge, it is very likely it is defective and can not read the chip on the cartridge. Replace the toner with a Genuine HP cartridge.

verify if you are printing with the correct paper size..... long is 8.5 by 13 and not 8.5 by 14.....

or
