Dell printer model# A940 50c error

I just bought a new black ink cartridge #7Y743 from Staples and everytime I try to print something, I get the 50c cartridge error. I've tried re-installing the cartridge, checking the tape, and even tried another, new cartridge. Nothings worked. I'm about to throw the printer out the window. Can you help to save it's life?

Test your cartridges.

Remove the color ink cartridge then lower the cover of your printer. If the error message displays again, replace the black cartridge with a new one (or return the new one). Reinstall the color cartridge and remove the black ink cartridge then lower the cover. If the error message displays again, replace the color cartridge with a new color cartridge.
Note: My manual indicated that the printer might have detected a short circuit in a cartridge. I returned a month old black cartridge got a new one and my printer is working fine now. Good luck.

My Dad bought new ink cartridges ( black and color) and installed them in the printer and it is not registering that they are installed. What are some things I should check for and how can I fix this????

After installing new ink cartridges in your Dell all-in-one 926 printer, you may receive an error message telling you the print does not recognize the new cartridges. Refilled or third-party cartridges, which Dell does not recommend using with the 926, often trigger the error message. You may also receive this error after you have been using the same ink cartridges for some time. Whether the cartridges are new or not, the error can be caused by a number of sources. Following the steps below should clear up print cartridge problem.

  • 1

Open the Dell 926's front cover with the power on and wait for the cartridge carriage to come to a stop. Remove the ink cartridges by pressing on the tabs at the top of each cartridge. Check the cartridges to make sure you have removed all of the blue protective plastic film. Look for the "Dell" logo stamped into the cartridges' lids to ensure they are genuine cartridges.

  • 2

Clean the shiny metal portions of the ink cartridges with a damp microfiber cloth. Allow each cartridge to dry completely.

  • 3

Clean out any paper, staples or other debris that you may be able to see, then reinsert the cartridges into their appropriate slots. Put the black ink cartridge into the left slot and the color cartridge into the right slot. Make sure both click back into place.

  • 4

Close the Dell 926's front cover and turn off the printer. Unplug the power cord and USB cable from the printer for five seconds, then reconnect them.

  • If your Dell 926 fails to recognize the print cartridges after following the above instructions,

take it to a repair shop for servicing.

    Says "NO COLOR CARTRIDGE".

    Try this:

According to the Dell website, this is how the cartridges for the Dell All-In-One Printer/Copier/Scanner Model AIO A940/A960 are supposed to look like. (see attachments)
Black cartridge P/N: 7Y743 with U-shaped "lump" on the (black) lid. (equivalent to Lexmark "82")
Color cartridge P/N: 7Y745 with square with corner cutout "lump" on the (blue) lid. (equivalent to Lexmark "83")

BUT, the black Dell cartridges have the identical corner cutout "lump" as their color cartridges. In other words, they have the lid from the color cartridge, but in black instead of blue.
Both cartridges are made by Lexmark and rebranded for Dell. But Dell made the black cartridge intentionally with a different "lump", so customers are forced to buy expensive Dell cartridges.

Stupid actually, because now the black and the color cartridges each fit in the other's slot!

Beat Dell at their own game, don't pay their rip-off prices!
When you open that Dell printer, lift the black lever that closes over the black cartridge. From the underside of that lever you will see a small "pin" sticking out, that corresponds with the corner cutout "lump" (as depicted on the color-cartridge). Cut that pin off with a sharp knife or a wire cutter.

All of a sudden, the cheaper Lexmark "82" black cartridges fit in (and any other remanufactured equivalent).
    Money in your pocket!
