Sony KV-36XBR250 - no picture, good sound

It looks like this might be a common problem, but my Sony 36XBR250 tv has worked great for 7 years and now I try to turn on the TV and I get great sound from both cable, satellite and DVD, but no picture. The red blinking light just blinks once a second with no pauses. I can't seem to make out a pattern for a diagnosis code, so I belive it is just a blinking light telling me to service the TV. Does anyone have a remedy to the problem. The TV is too heavy to take to the TV repairman and I think they will charge me an arm and a leg to come to the house. Please help!!! Joey

    Nobody?
    Nobody at all?

I have the same exact problem, the TV turns on, I hear the relays clicking, sound comes on just fine but no pic.. :(

    No dicernable blinking pattern...

The only thing I could add is that just before it "died" I thought the TV had been shut off by somebody (this TV is always on) and then proceeded to turn it on, at which time it came on no problem, this maybe happened twice, three times?

I have the same problem - Sound is just fine, but no picture. It's just a black screen. If i leave it off for a while and turn it on again later, the picture will be working again, for a few minutes. I have a Nintendo Wii system connected to the TV as well.. The problem seems to occur more frequently if I'm playing a game on it. I don't know if that has something to do with it.

This is a common failure mode (which I now share), and has nothing to do with the picture tube or surge protection. From the forums I have searched to-date, it appears to be a failed component in the flyback circuitry, but Sony will not admit to an inherent defect. If anyone has ACTUALLY FIXED this problem, please post a reply. Guessing won't help anyone. Thanks.

Sony has a problem with a lot of their sets-namely,poor solder points.I bet that is your problem.Circuit board has to be inspected for cold solder points, especially around the flyback transformer, which supplies most of the operating voltages.

I have similar problem. But after a few minutes of standby light blinking, the TV audio went on, but no picture. I then turn the TV off and back on, then I get both audio and video. The duration of blinking varies from 2 mins to 60 mins. Anyone have any idea?

Thanks in advance.

It might be surge protection (though if you get audio it might be #2 - see below), try unplugging the TV from the electricity for 5 minutes and see if it helps. 2. If the above didn't help, than it's probably the tube which might be done for (7 years is a respectable time) in which case you might be better of buying a new set (tubes in the majority of cases cost a lot to replace).

Check whether the filament of CRT glow or not. If not, check all the solder terminals at the CRT base card. If it glows, check all the voltages at the video output card, said above. Did you get your set fixed or did you replace it? My same set did the same thing. Turned it off for 2-3hrs after watching it and when I tried to power it up- nothing but the sound it would normally make just before the major power up, sort of a relay click sound. No picture or sound but the red light blinks non-stop.

Sony Wega Kv-36XBR250 screen blinking

I have seen this flashing before, this could be an indication that the picture tube is weak, what happens is that if the white balance is off there is a circuit called akb it monitors the kathode of each gun and if they are not in balance it will attempt to balance it out. if it can't the picture will begin to flash, sometimes in some models the power light will blink 5 times. On some models the power light will only flash if the tv gives up trying to compinsate for white balance and shuts off compeletely. If you see the tv shutting off with 5 blinks then you know for sure it is time for a new set.

Sony KV-32S45 turns on at first, than blinks out, still sound

I would look for intermitent solder connections on the small horizonal driver transformer as well as other HV Componets.(HV Transformer etc.) Also solder up the Vetical output IC. These have been common causes of failures. I would not use the set until these have been checked and soldered. If you don't, a massive failure of the hoizonal circuit and powersupply will occur.
Hope this helps,

Blinking picture

TV Repairman came out today to look at my Sony KV-36XBR250 today with the exact same problem - he was able to adjust the settings through the service menu, but said it was a temporary fix only.

The picture tube is going and the Sony circuitry has a "video mute" that it uses when it senses the tube is not warmed up enough. The degraded state of the tube causes the blinking on and off as the signal from the tube wavers.

He ballpark estimated the tube replacement cost well above the price for replacing the set with a 37" LCD, so it's going to the dump...

Picture tube

Ibonne- firstly what is the reasoning for wanting a pix tube" do you have dark picture or poor color. generally when the tube is gone the screen changes to one color.the price of any pix tube is more than the set is worth generally. Please explain problem and maybe I can help you. cooltek Feb.15/08

Picture on TV great. NO sound though

shannonlamb- check the back of your set where the cable ect. hook up, there may be a button on the back for speaker on/off.If not then check the menu to see if there is speaker on/off in menu make sure it is on.The last is the old tap test, just tap the back and sides,if you get sound at all it is internal cold solder joints.Let me know ----- cooltek Feb.15/08
