if the set has a previous vertical line problem and a white horizental line only comes in the cross of the screen and you turned the tv on for a time while the problem is solved that mean you have make a burnt line to the screen , but if you are the tv owner and nothing of that happens so you have a problem in faulty dried capaciter in the vertical live part search for 33uf 160 v or 22u 160 v and alter regards please don't forget to rate thx

You will need to replace it. The storm fried your board for sure, there is no fix for that, and a broken board is useless. you can't really put it back together because the entire surface of an electornics board is conducting electricity through it from component to component. If it could be fixed, it will surely cost you more to fix than buy a new one. Sorry to be the bad news bearer but it is shot, you are left with a giant paperweight.

Check and replace its tuner.

tried to hooked up with an air antenna. if you can not get any channel and just a white raster or snow, it could be the tuner get fried.

Don't beat it with a bat LOL, the problem your having is a simple solution, however this would be best left to a qualified tech to do, the Screen Voltage needs to be tweaked up just a tick, I've worked on alot of these sony's and 9 times out of ten thats what it is.

The blinking Standby light is an indication of a blown Line Out Put stage. It can be either a blown horizontal output transistor or the Flyback transformer. Either way you will need professional help to replace them. The access to these components on an old TV is a little tricky esp: considering the weight of the TV.

Hello cwcritters, hi, does your tv front panel has any pilot light on or nay sign that the TV is on, if yes, there is problem with the main board and power supply, probably a short, this TV is on standby, here are the things to check, a shorted horizontal output transistor, a bad voltage regulator, or any ICs that are overheating, NOW if there is no light at all, then your TV may have fuse open. A fuse opens when a user plugs the TV while the power switch is on, causing a surge of electric current. or TV develops a shorted regulator. If you dont know anything about electronics, dont do the service yourself, you may further damage the TV, better call service.

This is the best solution for your problem as a 40 year experience with wires etc. Go to the source of your cable signal connector . Open it and clean the terminals with emery paper , sand the end of the cable shiny clean from corrosion , get a new barrel connectors with gold terminals if possible lengthen the ends of the cable , insert and tighten good, use thick rg-16 or rg 40 cable with good insulation ends crimped professionally with a crimpier or buy ready made , not from dollar store. Get a gold plated professional splitter if you need one or two , it will cost about 15 or more each . Make the cable runs as short as possible, using the thick good cables. If needed get a signal magnifier. From radio shack or the source etc. Connect them good and tight . Ground the splitters . Problem solved , you will get crystal clear channel 2 to 7 including 3 and 4 . Isolate the TV cable from other cables and power wires. Vitally

yes the power board and possibly both the sustain boards are compromised. Not a DIY without knowledge tools and unjderstanding electronics.
Call a professional you will find in the long run it will be chesaper than trying to DIY and ending up spending 2 times the cost because you did not do it right. It is not just a matter of changing boards like some indicate It requires tuning and circuit diagrams and an ability to check voltage and know why that reading is being displayed
