Sony Vaio PCG-FRV25 Cooling Fan Issue?

My Sony Vaio PCG-FRV25 constantly shuts down after 10 -20 minutes of operation. I checked for air flow from the cooling vents and I feel none. Could this be a cooling fan failure or other overheat issue? Should I replace the fan? Is there only one fan, Sony part number UDQF2ZH11FQU ?
Thanks.

Mike

I was going to suggest overheating before I read your own diagnosis; Yes, sound like the fan, but you can check by opening up and watching it. Or install temperature monitoring software such as Speefan;
If it is the fan it may well be that there is only one possible replacement - officially. But it is usually possible to cannibalize something cheaper to suit your purpose!

Sony vaio pcg-71318L overheating

Overheating When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.

Yes every piece from Sony laptops has built in WiFi for internet access. To use it look for a button with WiFi on your pc. If not found read manual.

I dropped my Sony PCG-3E2L and now the fan is not running. Lap top shouts off after a few min

If the fan is not running you should use the computer because you could cause it to overheat and become very damaged. Right now it is possible that JUST the fan is broken, which would be a simple fix. The reason the computer is shutting off after a few minutes is because it's trying to save itself from melting. You need to remove the fan, find the manufacturer and model number on the fan and order a replcement and install it before you attempt to use the computer any further.

I hope this helps! If not, please comment back and let us know!

My laptop changes its speed...reduces its speed!!!

2.66 ghz. is much to hot a chip for any Laptop.
The reason, I,m sure you know is the cooing factor.
With a unit that high in speed and temp., you will need a support base with a cooling fan to keep the unit at a stable temp.
I have a HP that came with a AMD Turion 1.8 ghz dual core processor and changed mine to a 2.2 ghz.
Unit runs very fast but over heating is always a problem.
The support base I picked up was about $30.00USD
and I still have to keep my eye on the temp.
Hope this has helped.
P.S. You may want to stop at your local Radio Shack and get a can of compressed air and blow out the fan a grill section. all in one word VENTELATION

My Sony Vaio laptop turns off constantly. It

When it is running I need to know if the air coming out of the vent slats is hot or just warm. It sounds like the laptop is overheating and shutting down so it doesn;t burn itself up. Get a can of compressed air they sell at office supplt companies and use short bursts of air in the vent slots and fan housing. If there is an access panel on the bottom that allows access to the processor and heatsink, blow that area out too. Then check the Sony support site and see if they have a BIOS update for that model computer. Some manufacturers are writing new BIOS instructions for their laptops for the fans to run longer and faster to take care of heat issues.
