Battery keeps dying even though its charged

My battery is fully charged, but will only take 5 pictures before saying the battery is running out of power and turning itself off. Hubby says the battery is charged according to voltmeter, as is the charger. Even my new battery does this. Hubby checked contacts, too, and they were fine.

Maybe you need a new battery. They have a specific life.

if the problem is with the camera itself, then it is probably the master board - and you might consider whether Nikon repair is worth the cost.

check corrosion on the battery contacts. Use a pancil eraser to clean them if you can get to them.

SOURCE: I have nikon D80 purchased about 1.5 yrs. ago.

Nice camera! I have one too, and really enjoy it. I suspect you are running the original firmware. There is a new firmware version 1.11 that specifically addresses this problem. The download and instruction page is below:

Why is my laptop unable to run off battery power, even though battery shows fully charged and AC is unplugged

It's time for you to replace your battery.

how old is your laptop? and how do u use it - do u leave it plugged into the wall socket all the time? It's common for batteries to die out after a couple of years. however, if the computer overheats or if you leave it plugged in all the time, it's life cycle will decrease. Charge - discharge cycles. That's how you are suposed to do it.

I own a 91 Mercury ( ford) Capri convertible. I went to start it and it turned for a second then died. All power to the car died instantly. There is no lights no radio no lighter no instrument light no...

Has to be a cable connection issue of some sort. Check the other end of the battery cables, either the ground connection to the chassis, or power connection to the under hood fuse box. Could be that one of the battery cables has broken inside the insulation yet the connector looks good. Try using a cheap ohm-meter to see if there is a break in either cable ...keep looking!

Battery does not charge

Will the old battery (that you are replacing) charge up at all? If the old battery charges but the new battery will not, then it's likely a bad replacement battery.

To rule out the possibility of a corrupted battery meter inside of windows, you may wish to leave the laptop on battery power only, until it dies. A 5% charge will usually only grant you about 20 minutes of laptop life maximum. Since you left it charging all night, you should get a few hours of life before it dies. If you get a few hours of life, the battery meter software is corrupted.

Most likely though, the replacement battery is bad.

I would like to know why by battery on my new lap does not lasttoo much longer than 30 minutes. I would think that this is a very short time.

HI there,
30 minutes is not long. I've got a few questions for you:
1. When you first booted up your computer, did you leave your battery connected for at least 24 hours? If not, please do so as these type of batteries tend to have a cell memory even though they say on the retail box that it does not.
2. Do you leave the power supply connected to your laptop more than 5 hours when you use it? If the battery is fully charged and still connected, the cells will stay active and end up dying faster than usual. When your battery is fully charged, do not connect your power supply to your computer.
3. What kind of programs do you run on your computer? The standard last time listed on the package is usually when using your computer for business type operations (Microsoft Office, etc.). If you use your computer for gaming, the battery will not last as long. If your alpha is also maxed out, your battery will not last long. The tip I have for this is to go in your User Control Panel and to go click on the Battery Icon. Select the recommended power usage and click apply. This will help keep your battery alive longer.
Hope this helps,
Regards
