Make sure the swinging arm at the top of the brew unit moves easily. Check nothing on the brew unit is damaged. Servicing the brew unit might help.

Brew Unit

The transmission can wear out prematurely due to the brew unit becoming stiff. The piston in the brew unit should move smoothly and fairly easily. Keep the brew unit in good service by occasionally removing the piston to clean and re-grease the two big red o-rings using a food-safe grease. To pop the piston out the top, gently remove the plastic u-clip from the base of the shaft underneath, paying attention to which way up it goes for reassembly.

Thank you. I had this problem on the ESAM4200. The grounds were suddenly muddy and would spill inside the machine. While I could not entirely get the piston out of the brew unit on my model, I thoroughly cleaned the brew unit with vinegar (oops) and hot water. I also descaled the machine, just in case. Pucks are back to normal and the machine stays clean.

Jura WE8 - Should I be concerned that the pucks crumble apart when they fall in the hopper?

No, don't worry, it may be the coffee. If it gets very wet, then yes it needs attention to the seals in the brew head.

Miele 6805- used coffee grounds don't get dumped into the waste container,

On the left side of the brew unit there should be a metal wire that is bent in the shape of a U that scrapes the grounds off the top of the brewing chamber - the puck then should slide down a small chute that is the shape of a W - into the waste container. Sometimes the Chute can be found installed upside down - shape of an M - it is easily reversed if that is the case

I have miele CVA 4070 It just recently started only brewing about 1/2 to 2/3 cup of coffee or espresso and the rest of it goes into the waste container. So the waste container has a watery puck and...

Have you clean the brew unit with the cleaning tablets? This dissolves and rids the brew unit of the oils which in turn build up and clog the brew unit - the result being watery pucks and less product being disbursed.

Red Light 28 is flashing even when dregs are emptied

Check the edge of the container that goes in to the machine there is a small part that sticks out, it is possible that that piece is not touching the microswitch in the machine. Remove the drain tray and the dregs tray, check the corners of the machine for loose coffee grounds.

The fall may have knocked out some wiring -- open the unit (remove back panel, then remove front by taking out screws inside) and see if any of the cables to the front panel or control board came out.
