If this is not turning with a heavy load it can be one of or a few different things. The motor may be going bad and cant handle the heavy load or the drum belt may be slipping or the dryer drum wheels where the dryer rides on may be worn out.

If its the wheels the machine will be making a sort of a grinding sound when it runs and the dryer drum will be loose and wobbly inside the machine. The drum wheels and belt are cheapest, probably less than 10 bucks for both.
You will need to remove the front of the machine and remove the drum to get to the wheels and belt. It shouldnt take more than 1/2 hour or so to do this job.

The motor is another thing. 150.00 for the part, hours of labor and electrical connections. Clearly not worth it unless you have access to a cheap parts supplier. Check ebay for appliance parts suppliers. They usually buy up manufacturers surplus parts and sell them for 1/2 of what they originally sold for.

I have the same problem. I think mine is a loose belt. Is it hard to tighten? how do I go about doing it after I get the front off?

  • gzukoff Mar 02, 2014

The belt be tightened, there is a spring loaded tensioner that over time (because of constant tension and heat) will need replacing. Looking throught the bottom access panel (in the front) and it can be seen. It is in the shape of a "z" near the motor with a wheel on it that the belt rides on. You will not have to remove the drum to replace it but it makes sense to replace the belt and wheels that the drum rides on if your getting your hands dirty already.

Sorry, that should read the belt cannot be tightened. Its similar to a car serpentine belt tensioner.

make sure to grease the bearing surafce the wheels ride on. I use hi temp automotive bearing grease

I don't know what my error code means and my washer won't start

I had the same problem, My issue was a small sock that was sucked into the drain tube at the bottom of the washer. The technician removed the bottom panal and drained (a lot) of water from the tubing, then the sock came out, it had been preventing the water from draining out. It didn't seem to be a difficult repair to do on your own

Kenmore Heavy Duty Plus Dryer 86273100 drum won't spin

How could the belt be in working order if the drum doesn't spin? Check to see if the belt has come off the motor. If the motor runs but your dryer doesn't spin, the belt is off. If the motor runs with the belt on but it still won't spin then you'll have a lot of black smoke because your drum is jammed. In other words, there are a number of things that could be wrong, but not very many.

Dryer won't spin. I had something heavy in it and then it stopped spinning.

It is possible that a belt could have came off or broken. You will need to turn off power and remove rear cover to investigate.

The spinning thing won't spin all of a sudden. The washer is making a lot of noise and will drain but won't spin. How do you take the back off?

The motor has a double pole on it. The pump is driven on one side of the motor. The basket is driven on the other end of the motor. So if the water is pumped out then the lid switch is fine. What you have is a broken drive coupler. Usually breaks on a heavy load like rugs or quilts. Low water on a heavy load can break it too. Or simply old age.

I have an Amana model NDG7800AW. A few weeks ago

The roller to the belt tensioner is binding causing to make the warbling noise. The bearing needs to be replaced which comes with the roller. A new belt is advisable as well when replacing. The stalling problem could be also from the belt being stretched or the timer relay is weak

All lights flash when started

try a different socket and try not to use extension leads if the lights continue to flash do not worry for now . the balance problem could be uneven load . or get some one to remove top and check support springson top and dampers at bottom are still in place . and concrete weights are not loose .

My dryer takes forever to dry clothes!

Depending on the size of your loads, it could very well be that you have the dryer past it's "normal" capacity. This happens quite frequently around my house and the Mrs. will turn the dryer on two-three times on one load, but it's usually overloaded.

As per your question about the belt and it not spinning the drum fast enough, if the belt was slipping, you would smell the rubber burning as it slid over the drum.

As per the heating element, there is no such thing as it burning out. It is either working or IS burned out. there is no middle ground with electric elements.

Might I suggest you try making your loads smaller and see if you get different results. Always know that denim and heavy t-shirts, by default, are gonna take longer because they are more dense.

If, after going through these few steps, you are getting no new results, verify the blower is working properly by placing a few wash cloths, or other light pieces of clothing, and see how long it takes for those to dry.

Lastly, make sure you don't have your exhaust hose crimped or the outside vent is not completely stopped up(though I think you have already gone through these few steps) as this can cause a nasty fire and we don't want that.

Hope this helps.
