Yamaha RX-V463 Configuration Help

I have a Sony VCR, Sony PS3, Verizon FIOS Motorola HD Set Top Box, Technics Phonograph and Harmon Kardon Tape Deck. 1 HDMI cable is connected to a Toshiba flat screen. The PS3 and Set top are connected by HDMI to the receiver. The VCR and phonograph are connected to the receiver. The Sony VCR won't play video through the receiver and if I understand correctly from other postings the receiver won't convert analog to digital and play through the HDMI so I have to connect this directly to the TV. The PS3 plays Blu Rays fine but the audio on DVDs cuts in and out. It sounds like I should use optical for the audio and connect the HDMI directly to the TV for this issue or is there a better solution. Also to get the phone to work I need a preamp? Is that correct?

Solved problem with Yamaha HTR-6040 AV Receiver. My daughter had inadvertently changed the program to "Direct Stereo" mode which allows sources to bypass the decoders and DSP processors so you can listen to 2-Channel PCM and Analog sources. Nothing to decode digital audio in this setting!

After further research, I learned that I need to plug the turntable into a preamp before plugging it into my newer receiver. As with cassettes, record players are fading away. I ordered a preamp, but won't be able to experience success until it arrives.

SOURCE: How do I connect a

Modern AV receivers rarely contain PHONO preamps.

A traditional turntable requires a preamp inline with it to PRE amplify and frequency-balance the minute signal produced by it's cartridge. Most stereo receivers and preamps have Phono connections and internal preamplification strictly for that purpose. Yours does NOT.

A standard turntable will require you to acquire an external PHONO preamp to place between the TT and an Aux connction on the receiver.

Some of the newer turntables come with selectable internal preamplification to solve the lack of it in modern equipment. If your turntable is that type you can select its internal preamp output and run that to an AUX input.

Trying to control Zenith DTT900 box with Yamaha RX-V463 remote

Since Insignia and LG share compatible codes for digital-to-analog converters, review your remote control's manual for LG VCR codes as they should work to control the Insignia converter.

I need to hook up a yamaha 465 receiver

It has two HDMI inputs and one HDMI monitor output for the TV, so assuming all your devices are HDMI-capable, YES.

I have a Motorola QIP6200/64xx DVR set-top box thru Verizon

The best code I could find was "007"

"210" kind of works, but can't compete with Mr. Bond.

After programming "007", if there are any features of you FiOS remote that do not work on the HK AVR 354 remote, simply follow the HK AVR 354 manual instructions to "learn" additional commands. See the last paragraph on page 31 through letter "e" on page 32.

Cheers,

I would like to hook up my components without having to turn on the receiver to watch tv from DVR or Cable if possible. I have Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300 HD Cable DVR w/HDMI out, Samsung TV w/HDMI ,...

You should not lose any picture quality from the DVD player. I am currently having the similar setup with PS3 as the Blu-ray DVD player with HDMI and a Samsung DVD as regular player with component cable to a Samsung LCD TV. Remember the quality on Blu-ray is better than normal DVD so don't expect more than what it is.

This receiver does not have video conversion capabilities. In the owners manual it mentions this. So HD in = HD out. Analog in = analog out on the video portion

VCR to TV

Your FIOS box is typically a Motorola Digital Cable Tuner. In order to record from the VCR your FISO will have control of the tuner, not the vcr. If your FIOS has two video outputs on it for video (av connections), one should be plugged into you tv set and the other should be plugged into the VCR input. Your cable tuner will have to be set for the channel you wish to record ahead of time while the VCR tuner has to be set to record the line input at whatever time you wish to record. If your FISO has one video output line (av connections), your VCR has to be set to channel 3 when you record (provided that is the channel your FISO box is set for when viewing TV over the coax cable) and you will have to attach the coaxial output from the FISO into the coax input of your VCR.

The only way around this is to get a splitter and split the coax line so that the FIOS is connected to the coax as it is now and the VCR is connected to a seperate line using the coax input, however using this configuration will prevent you from recording digital channels. If you have a cable ready VCR, it will probably only recognize channels up to 150.

If you really want to get it to record digital channels without the hassles find out if Verizon has a FISO box with DVR to it or connect a Tivo to your FISO. Tivo will tune the FSIO when it records and it's very user friendly to use.
