Commercial DVD disks are "keyed" to a specific "region". USA is in "Region 1", and Europe is in a different region. Some DVD players allow you to "switch region", but only up to FIVE times, and then it "locks" into one region.

unplug it and plug it back in and press the progressive button to turn it off, should work. Yeah that blue screen sucks, i would have thought you can get to the menu no matter what but that's sanyo for you, well most other brands also...

Hi, this is a bit basic, try turning of for about 1/2 hour, to enable to discharge, then try again. ( I have used this on industrial installations, with far to complex computers stuff inside, and that mainly works)

just in case that happens again...you had the front panel locked out and need the remote to do anything, to lock and un-lock it you press the "lock" button on the remote

Does that specific DVD work in some other DVD player? Does that specific DVD work in the DVD-drive in your computer? Dirty disk?

We lost our original remote also. We got a generic remote. It came w/instructions & a list of brands/devices that it will work with. I found Sanyo on the list & entered the code associated w/Sanyo into the new remote & presto. We were using our DVW 5000 again.

It is most likely that the pinch roller will need replacing. Once these become glazed (shiny) the tape slips over them, resulting in 'chewing' as the edges of the tape ride up or down the capstan shaft and into the top or base 'rabbit' of the exit guide nearby. Replace the roller, clean the tape path (capstan, guides, heads, take up arm, etc., *gently of course*) with alcohol solution or methylated spirit - do not use q-tips to clean the drum.

VCR should be OK after that. No further repair should be necessary here, and rubber pinch rollers for VCRs are not expensive to order as a generic part for this model.
