During transcription, when you release the foot pedal, the tape automatically rewinds a little so you can resume easily. This no longer happens with my machine. I have tried several foot pedals, but the same thing happens. When I unplug the pedal, the fast forward and rewind controls work fine. When the pedal is plugged in, most functions don't work at all or do so minimally. Any idea what's going on?

It could be the rewind solenoid is jamed up or there is a switch that comes loose under the tape deck. Either way, it will need to be serviced.

Pedal problems

If the tape re-winds when you take your foot off the pedal then the auto-rewind switch on the right side of the machine at the back is set to number 3. Move it forward to number 1 or 0. If it really does rewind while your foot is on the pedal then I don't know what is causing that. Sorry.
