When i turn my satnav on open page comes on and then it showes a picture of satnav charging from a laptop and will not go to anything else can u help me please thanks graham

Change operating system first

You can charge it using the car charger that came with it by plugging it into the cigarette lighter socket of your car and the narrow end into the back of the satnav. You need to have power going to the cigarette lighter socket. On some cars that means that the car has to be running. There's a little led (light) on the plug which shows when it's receiving power. Charging this way takes about 4 hours.

You can also charge the satnav using an optional mains charger which also takes 4 hours.

Finally you can charge it by connecting it to the USB port of a computer for 8 hours. Both the computer and the satnav need to be on.

There's a battery state indicator on the screen of the satnav which shows if the battery is charged or not, on the screen which shows WHERE TO and VIEW MAP. It only shows when the satnav is not connected to a power source so you need to stop charging it to view it.

When it's plugged into the cigarette lighter socket it should work. Sometimes the reason it won't is because the mini USB plug of the charger is not pushed fully into the satnav and it goes into mass storage mode showing a picture of a satnav connected to a computer. The plug appears to be fully pushed in but it's not. Pushing it in further usually solves the problem.

I hope this solves your problem and that you find that garmin satnavs aren't so bad after all.

Just connect the satnav to your computer's usb port. Turn on the satnav, if it doesn't come on automatically and it will charge. It will take about 8 hours to charge compared to 4on a car or mains charger.

When the satnav is connected to the car charger sometimes there can be a problem with the mini USB plug at the back of the satnav. The plug appears to be pushed in fully but it's not. This causes the satnav to stop working and show a picture of a satnav connected to a computer. If this is your problem push the mini USB plug in further and it should solve your problem.

The problem with the car charger is in the mini USB socket in the back of the satnav. The mini USB plug doesn't go in far enough although it appears to be fully in. Push it in further and it will work. When it's connected to the computer it's not possible to use the satnav. It's meant to show this picture then.

The satnav can be charged by connecting it to the computer. However that takes approx 8 hours. You should have received a car charger with it. On one end there's a mini USB plug and on the other a plug for the cigarette lighter socket of a car. This charges it in approx 4 hours. There's also a mains charger available which does not come with the satnav. This also charges the satnav in about 4 hours.

It is the same manual as is used for the 205 but if you look at the bottom of the page it states in small print that it also covers the 265W, among others. There should have been a printed manual with your satnav also but apparently you did not get one. This is a 65 page manual and it is fairly detailed.

Garmin satnavs come with a charge out of the box.
In some cases your device may have lost a charge during shelf life. In this case you can charge these units in three ways:

1. Place unit on computer with USB cable for approximately 8-12 hours
2. Place unit on Garmin specified AC adaptor for approximately 4-6 hours
3. Place unit on 12V vehicle adaptor for approximately 4-6 hours.

Some cars continue to supply power to the cigarette lighter socket when turned off and others don't. If yours doesn't you can charge it from your computer. There's no indicator to show that it's charging or when it's charged. However when you disconnect the satnav from the computer and turn it on there's a battery state indicator which shows if it's fully charged or not.

No the red light comes on to show that there is power going to the Satnav. In most Garmins the Battery Strength meter is in the home screen. Generally people leave the satnav plugged in when driving regardless of whether the battery is charged or not.
