Perhaps a coincidence but I just changed over my lens for a new longer one, and when I changed it back, the camera stopped working. Won't register any power at all. Resetting, battery in out and sd card in out all deliver the flash of the green light, but nothing after. Twice since the problem it randomly worked again. Once for a minute, once for about a second. Typically this is day one of honeymoon on a remote island with no Nikon repair shop in sight. Help please?

    Hi,
    First of all congratulation...
it will be a pleasure to help a new married couple .
would you please clean the CPU contacts both on the lens and the camera with a soft tissue moisturized with 2-3 drops of rubbing alcohol..not to much just ..
pls let me know the result for further advise..
    Regards..

    Kerguney,

Thanks for the reply. I assume the CPU contacts are the ball bearings on the lens and silver matching panels inside the camera? Can't see anything else or get any more info from the manual. I've cleaned both of those areas with rubbing alcohol but still no joy I'm afraid.

What shall I try next? Could there be a loose connection or on/off switch issue?

    Jonnie

Regards the silly question, I don't think so, but I couldn't guarantee it. Would that be particularly bad? Regards the second point, I have no power at all so can't go into the menus etc. Only the reset in the data transfer flap is accessible.

  • jonnie_brads Aug 25, 2011

So what happens if it wasn't off? Is the camera ruined? Does it need to go to a repair shop? Or is it gone to the big camera playground in the sky? That would seem a poor function to allow you to ruin your camera so simply. Plus I'm pretty sure I didn't change the lens with the power on.

first issue..yes it always must be OFF during lens change.
Second..Can you find another battery from a photo shop ? even one to borrow just for testing ? as far as I know D40-50-60 uses same battery..Pls try hard to activate the camera..otherwise no alternatives.
    Take care...

    Dear Jonnie,
all camera experts urge that it should be OFF position..it can ruin either LENS or Camera CPU contacts and its related circuit inside. It is a huge possibility but it does not mean yours have the this case..YET ..Anyway,dont worry so far and ,your situation is different now..We should test and see how camera will react after you replace the battery.Does your battery hold charge ? how do you charge ? how about its Charger ? does it function properly? these are the main issue..will you be able to locate a battery to borrow for testing purposes ? Waiting your success story..

Lens won't close and On/Off button doesn't work

Even though the battery appears to be charging it may be shot. Some batteries if they run down too far can not be recharged. You need to try a new battery in the camera.

My lens won't open

The gear linkage in the lens is seized or is out of alignment, this is a job for a camera specialist, I recommend estimate first.

Lens error for coolpix l3. The lens won't retract and the camera won't work. took batteries out and put new ones in. nothing is working. is there a way to reset the camera?

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...
Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them.

I have a Canon T50 film camera and one of my lenses (a 50mm) won't go back on. It's the lens that was attached when the camera was given to me, but now it won't go back on.

If you are putting it on correctly and it won't attach then something on the lens mount must have been damaged. Take the camera and lens to a camera or electronics store that does service work to see if it can be repaired.

I dropped the camera and the zoom lens got off line. It won't close or go back in the camera. It looks stuck and I tried pushing it in but I'm afraid that I might push hard that it'll break...

The lens may be fixable but most likely will need to be replaced.
If the lens is stuck straight or won't come out at all it needs to be replaced.
If the lens is stuck at an angle then you may be able to snap it back to the center by pressing the edge of the lens back towards center while holding on the outer ring of the lens.
Hope this helps!

My camera won't turn on and the lens won't close

Perhaps you have bad batteries? Connect it to another power source such as an AC wall outlet and use your power adapter and see if this helps. If it does not or you have already tried this then your camera may need to be serviced.

Message: Lock lens aperture ring at minimum aperture (largest f-number) I think I'm doing this but the message won't go away and the camera won't work.

You must lock the aperture ring to f/22, so the camera can engage the aperture adjustment lever on the lens. Then, you can change the aperture with the command wheel.

When you change the aperture with the command wheel the aperture ring on the lens doesn't move when the camera actually adjusts the lens aperture.

Take the lens off and locate the aperture adjustment lever on the lens mount.

Unfortunately, this won't work with older AF lenses. So if you are using an older lens, the only thing you can do is change the camera setting to M (Manual) to adjust the aperture on the lens yourself.

My camera keep saying lens error

there are some repair options for a lens error. They won't work for all cases, but they're worth a try if the camera's no longer under warranty:............
