check the speaker wire that must be broken in between...

For the setup functions you have to use either the monitor out (a yellow jack on the top-right corner of the back) or you have to use component video out. HDMI will NOT work for setting up the system. This is one complaint to Yamaha from all of us.

hi i had similar problem, you need to change the settings in the bluray player output to hdmi or auto in other to get sound after the settings turn everything off even from the socket and then turn it back on for that setting to take effect. try this

hi can you try this it might work, take off all the connections to your receiver and the reset your receiver to the original factory settings then turn it off and disconnect it from the socket. connect all the the speakers and turn on and start auto set up. hope it works

How much loudness are you trying for. Also, the program material and bass/treble settings factor in when asking a system for increased power...accordianman

Yes, the firmware on your hdtv box has an old firmware, I switched my old hdtv box with a newer one box and the problem was solved. It seems that it can't work if your hooking up with DVI to HDMI cable to your receiver to tv. Your hd box must have an HDMI out otherwise it causes problems. I also have rx-v661 and i finally hooked up everything HDMI to the receiver and then to the tv and it was having the problem you speak of. After I switched out the hd box for a newer one everthing worked fine.

It would probably be with the speaker. That is easily checked by simply unhooking the speaker and running the test again.

First let me say that you have stated your problem very well. I completely understand the issue you are having.

By your description of your problem, it is obvious that you have isolated the problem to the Yamaha.

Despite what Yamaha tech support say's, it is their problem.

I have been dealing with tech support for a lot of different manufacters for many, many years. I repair under warranty over 20 different brands, but not Yamaha. I have repaired plenty of Yamaha receivers but none with this particular problem.

It is not uncommon to find tech support people who don't know as much as they should about their own product.

Since I don't have the instruction manual or a service manual forthis model I can only be of minimal help.

What you can do, if you have your instruction manual, check it over closely for this subject on how to change the settings for the HDMI. If you can not find this particular issue, it is possible that the Yamaha doesn't support 1080i. I would be surprised if it did not, but stranger things have happened.

Another thing you can do if you can still not find an answer to this problem is to take it in to an authorized Yamaha service center.

If you have recently purchased this Yamaha, it will be under warranty. They get at least 1 year. Tell them the problem you are having and if they do not know how to solve it right there on the spot, or give you an answer that satisfies you, leave it with them
to have it fixed. If they are an authorized service center they will have to fix it or get it replaced for you if it is under warranty. It may need a firmware upgrade to the digital board. If that is the problem, then they can do it for you.

Sorry I wasn't more help, but an authorized service center may be your best bet.

You will always have this problem. The only real way to solve it is to just turn up your center channel so the voice is louder and turn all the other speakers down. This has to do with the way the channel broadcasts. I also just do the "7 Channel" stereo mode. You will still get stereo effect just not front & rear effect. You also may want to upgrade your center channel speaker so it is louder. I always recommend going with onkyo, dennon, or harmon kardon for receivers as they are the best. you probably blew a fuse in the power supply

on a subwoofer, you normaly dont get sound you just get the bass from the music or movie,

Contact Yahama's customer support group on the web is one way to order one...accordianman

Go back into zone 2 set up and turn volume fix off then turn up volume for zone 2.

First let me say I am sorry to hear this has happened to you.

I have been repairing these type of units since they came out on the market.

Yes there is a small ray of hope, but it doesn't sound good.

Unplug all of your equipment for about 3 hours and then plug it all back in again. I would not expect this to fix the problem, but it is always worth trying. It will reset all of your equipment and you can rule out the possibility that resetting anything will work.

Then make sure all the settings are right for the inputs they are connected to. When using these type of receivers, you must assign the inputs to the proper digital device you are using, in this case the HDMI.

Because you heard the loud pop in the speakers, you do have a problem in the receiver. Most likely it is in the digital board that the HDMI plugs into. These are very costly boards and in many brands they do not offer them as a replacement part. They are extremely difficult to troubleshoot and repair at board level also.

Even though this may sound bleak, if you have home-owners or renters insurance it should be covered. I have repaired and replaced many peoples audio/video systems covered by the home-owners or renters insurance for this exact reason. Lightning damage is a very common problem. Even most of the equipment protected by a surge protector can still be damaged.
But it is still a good idea to have the best surge protector you can get.

Contact your agent and find out about your coverage, and it is likely that you will be told to have all of the equipment in your home checked and then taken in to a repair center.

Excess power supply demand from the display can cause the symptoms you describe. Unfortunately, the fix will be a new display if this is the case...accordianman

You may have a bad protection relay or solder joint at the relay mount position. This relay prevents power supply "thumps" when the unit is first turned on, and also shuts the amp down when there is an overload problem....accordianman
