FLASHING AMBER LIGHT FIX. This maybe in fact a motherboard issue, but actually its a bit more. You can and should replace the power supply with a more powerfull one as it will help overall, but the issue is Really the front USB ports and 2 issues concerning them, 1 some devices pluged into them have boot sequences of their own, (remember your boot seq goesfrom,USB,CD,ARRAY)etc.
So if the device isnt design with its own OS, the mis-boot will get stuck Hence the Flashing light. and 2. the front USB ports dont supply alot of power upon bootup. and the devices pluged into them will again cause a mis-boot. Simply unplug everything from the FRONT usb ports. You may have to shut the computer off and unplug the machine for about *15* minutes.
Enough to get the motherboard to downpower completely.
with the front usb ports clear, and the power cord unpluged, hold down the power button and plug in the machine. should boot no problem. So to sum things up. The motherboard is fine, it just not happy with so many usb ports (power wise). A larger power supply is a good idea but wont entirly fix the issue, Unplug front usb devices as they may have some form of bootup.

connecting front panel leads of generic case to 4600 motherboard

I have a spare Dell Dimension 4600 motherboard (F4491, same as 2Y832 and Optiplex 170L motherboards) that I am installing into a generic case.

My problem is matching up the front panel leads to the motherboard connector. The case front panel leads are: a 2-wire power LED, 2-wire power switch, 2-wire reset switch, and a 2-wire speaker lead. The motherboard has a 9-pin front panel connector (J9G1) and a 9-pin control panel connector (J7J2).

Separate question: what is a TAD connector (a 4-pin on the motherboard)?

What happens if I try the trial-and-error method?

Thanks.
Jerry

Hi stefyboy - Below is a link where you can download your driver. After you get to the page just make sure it says Windows XP as the operating system. Then scroll down and click on the + next to where it says network. You want the intel 10/100 driver. I've included a few a ways to install it. If your kinda new to this the easiest is the download to desktop method and just remember where it unzipped it to, you can always move it to a driver directory where you can keep all your drivers for the future.

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_P4_4600&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

If this solves your problem PLEASE rate this as fixed. If not, DO NOT RATE YET. Just add a comment letting me know what happened and I'll be glad to assist you further. Thanks.

I foudn this in anther forum:
I have an ASUS motherboard P5E3 Premium. The audio that came with it was the Sound Max audio. I also noticed abnormal sounds coming from the speakers. They included sounds during hard drive activity and also with mouse movement. They were not loud but noticable. I searched all over the web but didn't find the answer. I stumbled across the fix myself. I also have vista-64. In the sound control panel > speaker properties > levels... there is a pc beep slide bar. I noticed that if it is disabled then the abnormal sound went away completely. Problem solved. Hope this helps.
