ok .Remove and reinstall all memory modules to ensure they are seated properly. While you're doing that, it's a good idea to clean the contacts on the memory module. Close the computer and power it up. If you get the same 3 and 4 lights try this:
Removing the modules one by one from motherboard. maybe its a bad memory stick
or
the slot where the memory connects is bad so that means the Motherboard will have to be replaced.

Test all power and data leads that attach to your hard drive IDE,SATA
the leads from your (motherboard to your hard drive) make sure they have secure dust free connections and are not faulty
if its a 40 pin flat ribbon type it will be the first to fail
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd and floppy have secure connections and are not faulty
even something as small as a faulty electrical fan and its lead can cause you problems
computers need all power and data to continue through every working device and to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error
Check your RAM.
The RAM is located in the middle of the motherboard.
There are tabs that you can push to release the RAM.
Remove it and put it back in place until the tabs pop out.
Loose RAM can cause your computer not to start properly where you want to see a video signal.
Remove the memory modules from their slots.
Take the opportunity to clean the slots on the motherboards and the memory module connectors.
Use compressed air to blow dust away and clean contacts with a soft cloth.
Do not use a metallic vacuum cleaner if it touches any component it may create a short and cause damage to the motherboard or other components.
Do not use solvent that may attract dust and never poke things like cotton buds in to slots, lightly rub alcohol (Methylated Spirits) on a cloth not to hard let the alcohol do the work on the copper gold or silver tabs and r
Allow the pins to dry.
They will air dry in a matter of minutes.
If reseating the memory did not resolve the issue try swapping the location of the memory.
Make sure your graphics card is securely seated with no dust built up or in the socket
if you remove your graphics check the socket to make sure its dust free
Restart your computer then reinstall it this should activate found new hardware wizard
Check the vga lead for secure dust free connection or try another vga lead.
Dell dimension 5150 blinking amber lights
I have similar problem these days. After normal shutting down the PC, it can not be powered up again, the amber light blinks. A temp solution for my case is by doing these steps:
1. leave all monitor, network, keyboard and mouse etc. connected
2. disconnect the power, wait until green light and amber light dim.
3. pop up the CMOS battery, then put back in (better to check its remaining voltage, if not good, change a new one)
4. power amber light flash shorter and lighter
5. disconnect any USB connections like keyboard and mouse,
6. immediately connect keyboard and mouse back into USB ports
7. my pc powers up at this point, all green lights shining. Except it displays CMOS setup warnings, give me options to click either F1 or F2
8. I click F1, it goes into normal login XP
The only problem is I could not shutdown PC again, if I do, then I have to repeat 1-8. I have to use "Standby" instead, which I usually do.
I am looking to replace my dimension5150 witha

Reset bios password
Hi, its very easy to reset password for bios.
You have two methods to rest on two different conditions.
First if you want to re-set in normal mode and a second thing if you have forgotten the password.
First of all enter into Bios Setup then Security and Reset your password.
Second if you have forgotten your password and you need to reset without power on your computer take these steps;
1. Uncover your computer
2. See a jumper near to hard connector. This jumper sets on two legs total of three and one leg free.
3. Changer jumper side ... It sets on free leg and then one leg will free.
4. Now, starts on your computer, it will give you a message. Now follow the message and accept changes for Bios and press enter.
5. Once again switch off your computer.
6. Reset jumper on the same place and cover your computer again.
7. Start your computer enter into Bios without any password. Now you can set your password from security tab again.
Wish you Good Luck
