Power Supply

Trying not to be too snarky but that card is over 10 years old. Hope it was free because that's all it's worth, if that. And as for your computer having 130w psu, well it must be even older. I know it must still work but depending on what you're trying to run (games?), everything else in there is too old as well, cpu and memory here (too slow, not enough) . You should take that PSU back, get a refund and get a newer machine.

Can not connect the Gateway

are they both connected with a 'wire' Ethernet cable, or are one or both of them using Wireless for their Network connection ? Also ensure that IE is not set to 'work offline' (click File and note if 'work offline' has a check next to it. if it does, then un-check it.)

How do i know if my video card is bad?

Ensure that the drivers are correct and installed properly. Use a cable and monitor that have been tested as working. If you have another video card, and it works in the same machine, then your card is probably bad. You might also try the card in another machine.

Gateway GX7022E - When I try to boot it up it gives me a bunch of messages but the last one says insert boot disc. I don't have this disc. What should I do?

Most likely a boot file is corrupted. Youll need to reload from a restore point if you saved any. If not then I suggest to restore from your recovery partition. http://support.gateway.com/s/SOFTWARE/Medialess/MLXPH1/MLXPH1su10.shtml

Gateway GX7022E will not power on. Power present to motherboard. Help.

Test your PSU power supply unit or replace it if your power supply units fan is not working your PSU is faulty

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle of restarting or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up a computer hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive power and data cables IDE SATA

the leads from your MOTHERBOARD TO YOUR HARD DRIVE make sure they have a secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty make sure all leads that are attached to your dvd\cd floppy drives have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty computers need power and data to travel through every working device to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error even something as small as a faulty electrical or fan lead can cause you problems

motherboard and a hard drive any leads between them will fail before your motherboard or your hard drive if its a flat ribbon 40 pin type IDE replace it this will be the first to fail

check all electrical power input and extensions make sure they are securely seated even the cd/dvd floppy drives need to have current go through make sure these drives are working

also check the Cmos battery and computer RAM modules make sure they are securely seated with no dust built up or in the sockets on some motherboards cmos batteries are soldered in check you CPU central processing unit make sure its securely seated and has thermal paste it might be getting to hot the thermal paste will help disperse the heat Thermal compound is a sticky paste that is placed directly onto the CPU. Allowing for a more direct heat transfer between the CPU and HEAT SINK and preventing air gaps from forming between the CPU and heat sink. hope this helps

Is it possible to make it wireless

To make this PC wireless capable, you would have to install a wireless network interface card, also known as a wi-fi card or wireless adapter. There are also USB wireless adapters, so you wouldn't have to open your case and install a card. For more information, here is a link to the Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_network_interface_controller

I have a gateway gx7022e

At power on / power up, look for the key during the bootup (black screen with white text), that allows you to enter SETUP. If none designated such as F1, F2 F10 etc, then quickly click the delete button a few times and that may get you into setup. You may have to turn off the computer if you miss that window of time if it rfequires pressing the delete button a few times. Keep an eye out for the Enter Setup key though. To turn off the computer press and hold the power button 'till is shuts down and resart the process until you get to the setup screen in bios. In setup bios environment, look for set factory defaults and then save and restart. That may solve the issue of the lockup.

PC won't power up. When power switch is turned on

When you say your fan works I'm assuming this is your power supply fan and not the fan above the processor? It sounds like you experienced a power cut and obviously this has affected your pc. I take it you don't have your pc conneced to a surge protector? If you have your pc connected to this, this normally protects your computer from being fried during a power cut, the surge protector absorbs the excess power that can originate from a power cut. It sounds like you may have a problem with your motherboard as a result of this. Changing the motherboard can be very expensive so you shouldn't do that without determining that it definitely is the motherboard that has been ruined. What I would say is, get yourself a surge protector and make sure that all computer equipment is plugged into this. The other thing to use if you can afford the expense is a Smart Uninterruptable Power Supply. If you get a powercut this quickly takes over and enables you to shut down the computer properly. Sorry, not much help otherwise, good luck with your situation. Andrew

I think my network card is bad. My internet /

since the network card is built onto the motherboard reinstalling the driver would be the best first option.

HERE is the link to the driver.
Broadcom827.exe - Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet driver Version: 8.27.1.0
Supports: Windows XP
Note: This is the Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet driver for use with the Big Lake, Cortez, and Putton Bay motherboards in Windows XP.

I would try that first.

The DVD and CD drive will not open

Doesnt matter which you get first, pull old one out, plug new one in with same plugs and your comp will recognize it on start up, might have to install drivers if the new one comes with a driver disk.

Overheating

The overheating fan is not controlled by a software, there are three reasons why your fan overheats. First in the hard drive, your fan is not connected properly. Second you need thermal paste to keep the metal part of the fan to stick to the CPU to cool it down. The last thing is that the fan could be dusty and not running as usual.

Gateway GX7022E won't boot.

Well, it could be any component going bad, in this order: power supply, video card, memory, motherboard. You can try known working video, power and memory if you'd like, but it is probably the motherboard in this particular case. If you look at the capacitors on the mobo, you'll probably find that at least some of them are bulging at the top and/or leaking. the only thing to do if this is the case is to try and replace the bad caps - but this is VERY difficult, even for an expert.
