yeah i have the right solution,
right click on my computer ----> select properties and in that select ---->hardware tab ----> advance and select----> device manager ------> select IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers (expand it ) and go to SECONDARY IDE CHANNEL right click select properties and in that go to advance and in that change tha transfer mode to PIO ONLY from DMA IF AVAILABLE(its default)

your dvd may have power to open up so that you can insert the cd but the only possible thing that i can suggest is that the cable attached to your dvd may be damaged or try checking if your computer recognizes your dvd and if its not recognized... it may have problems on the cable or the hardware itself.

mite try downloading another file or capture image software try www.freeware.com
they have a bunch of free ware you can download here that mite work . lala linda

well if it is home basic vista it mite not be compatable mite go to web site of the comapny you bought the CDRW from and ask them if the have a compatiable driver with vista? lala linda

You didn't tell me your operating system..

Did you install the software first? Sometimes If you jump the gun and install the drive before the software it will not recognize it...

There are 2 seperate lenses for CD's and DVD's, If you have had the drive for a while it is likely to be either 2 things.

1 - possible dust on DVD lens, try a lens cleaning disk..
2 - if 1 didnt work its likely the DVD lens is burnt out and you need to replace the drive..

However before replacing drive try downloading new firmware from LG site and then try once more..

Maybe your dvd's are pirated.. some dvd only plays original dvd.

It really does sound like you donot have the drivers properly installed

Try removing the device from device manager, then reboot. Windows should then re-detect the device and re-install the drivers for it. If that doesn't work, try the device on another computer. If it still doesn't work, it's probably defective.

if you are using windows xp or higher it will work as plug and play device
if that doesnt work u can try the home site they hav customer support center they will allow you to download the software for free if nd only if you have the product id and registration with you
nw if you can t find it then try the sites and search for it in phazeddl.com or in ddlspot.com you will get one

you have the c installation cd with you then ok
you go to device manager and uninstall the device
from there
and then reinstall it using the hardware cd given to you if
even then the problem persists reinstall windows this will do the trick
before that please verify whether u have any hardware issues

take it back and get a new one. Make sure you scan for a virus i use the free AVG

put tape on the hole on top of the tapes and you shoud be able to record. its tape on the top or pull the top off i cant remimber which one it is but this is the answer.

open the compuer a make sure the cord is plug in all the way sometimes they come loose. you may need to reinstall the driver. www.download.com

There are many causes one a slow processor speed ( even by pentium III 933mhz stuttered when i was playing divx) two needing to update the dvd software . Third the lense being dirty spay compressed air into the drive.

Clean the drive with a cd/dvd cleaner. Sounds like the read optics are a little drity.

OK YOUR DVD DRIVE HAS A LENS PROBLEM
BRING A DVD CLEANER DISK AND ADD LENS CLEANING FLUID TO THE CD S READING SURFACE AND INSERT THE DISK TO THE DRIVE AND WAIT FOR 1 MINUTE THEN EJECT AND REPEAT THE PROCEDURE WITHOUT LENS CLEANING FLUID
AND OF COURSE THE CD SHOULD BE DRIED OFF BEFORE YU INSERT IT TO THE DVD ROM

Try rebooting with the drive plugged in. You can also manually add the drive by right clicking on my computer in the start menu, and selecting 'manage', In the manage window on the Disk drives section, right click on the usb hard drive's partition and assign a drive letter to it.
