My oven is not working, is there a pilot?

Hi,
No most ovens do not use a pilot light anymore... they use an ignitor that glows red hot to start the flame.

I have a Hotpoint gas

Hi,

This model does not have a pilot that needs lit.

If you turn the knob on the range to the lite position and you hear sparking then the ignition system is trying to light the burners. The most common reason for them not to light after a tank has run empty is air in the lines. It may take several minutes of burning to clear out the system after filling the tank. Light the burners with a match and if you can turn the oven on also. Let them run for a few minutes until they quiet down. Try to light again and they should be fine.

If you do not hear the clicking sound when trying to light and the oven does not light you may have lost power to the range. Check the plug and outlet.

Let me know if this helps

The oven starts beeping and flashing F-2

First shut off breaker for 5minutes and see if it resets if not,
F2 indicates a high temp was reached. Remove the temp sensor it is located inside the oven near the top back. 2 screws hold it in.Carefully pull it out there will be 2 wires attached. Check with an ohmeter should have a reading of about 1100 ohms +- 10% if not within that range replace the oven temp sensor. If it checks out good you will need to replace the ERC electronic range control /clock. Both are easy to replace. If you need diagrams or illustrations of your specific model enter your model # at www.appliancehelponline.com. All parts come with installation instructions.

What is the cause of carbon Build up? does it

Yes, You are correct on the carbon build up being incorrect air gas mixture. I would suspect a yellow flame rather than a blue flame. You may want to lift the top up and look at the place where the burner mates with the manifold. You may find grease build up, blocking off the correct air mixture. The burners usually can be lifted out to assist in the cleaning of the air intake.

I can't find the pilot light on my Hotpoint gas

Depends which pilot light you're talking about. There are two for the hobs and (I assume) one for the oven. I can't find the one for the oven, hence why I'm on here looking through forums (a..?)

Cheers.

Burners will light but oven will not.

Could be the oven safety valve... a button (often red) that needs to be reset. Look for it in various places: sometimes under the stove top, sometimes inside a "warming cabinet" or, rarely, behind the stove. Good Luck. Yogi

Old hotpoint gas stove. burners and broiler work

Usually ranges have a pilot at the bottom. Take the bottom panel off and there should be a button that says 'pilot' hold the button down for a few seconds to let the air purge out. Then while still holding the button down, light the pilot with a match or a lighter of some sort. Continue holding the button down for a few more seconds until the thermocouple has warmed up. (You'll know the thermocouple has warmed up if you can release the pilot button and the pilot stays lit)

Where is my pilot light?

This model has an electric ignition. Turn the control to light and you should hear and see a spark at all burners. There is a use and care manual available at Hotpoint's website. This link will take you there. Enter your model number in the first screen and click manuals not "submit", then enter your model number again in the second screen.
