place the laptop on the table in the manner of bottom up.
on side on the long cover there is a mark of 2 disk uncover it safely by screwdriver u will see the hdd there is a bleck plastic hold it and slide to down sideand then replace hdd likewise

thats cause the drivers you are installing are not compatible with windows xp

click on Windows Xp,, download and install them..

restart your machine and as soon as you turn on the machine, keep on tapping f8 and do not wait for any display fo this process, you will get advanced boot menu options on screen, select the option which says safe mode with networking, and check there is this is working fine there just open the internet options from internet explorer and then click on advanced and restore the internet explorer to default settings. and restart the machine in normal mode if it does not works in safe mode then system needs to be reformated

This can be an issue with the hard drive..

Go to bios by tapping F10 while the system boots > go to diagnostics and select hdd self test.

If it given an error "No IDE device found" then try reseating the hard drive. i.e. take it out and put it back in.

Otherwise try changing the boot order by going to advance / system configuration > select boot order > select the hdd and pess F6 till it goes to the top. Press F10 to save and exit.

If You have an XP disk, put the disk in the tray, and turn off the computer, Turn it back on and the installer should start automatically if it does not. Turn off the computer and hit F2 While the system is starting, Then Tab Over to boot And make the CD-ROM Drive Your Default or First Boot Device Then Restart

I can provide you with a link for the sound drivers, but I need to know what operating system you are using. There's a huge difference in the process for the drivers from Vista to XP.

If you have a short or loose cable in the LCD assembly, it would be a good idea to have a local tech check it out, specially if you "fix" it by pressing or moving the screen around.

The internal speakers should automatically be disconnected by inserting a 3.5mm jack plug in the audio out socket. It may be that your headphones or external speakers are using a 2.5mm jack which is too small to operate the switches in the audio out socket. Purchase a 3.5mm jack plug [cheap] and plug this in if it disconnects the laptops internal speakers then you need to connect accesories with the correct size plug.

In case somebody has the same problem. Result of my investigation: * If everything is ok then the Presario CQ61 boots without battery. * HP support recommends to do a hard reset i.e. remove power supply, remove battery, press power button to discharge everything internally, connect power, press power button In my case the problem was solved by changing the AC Adapter (Power supply). Note: The led besides the power connector is not reliable. It is on with the working and faulty adapter. Note: The voltage level at the battery pins is not reliable. I had same values.
