Why does my monitor have colored vertical lines?

Hi Shannon,I don't have good news for you. Coloured vertical lines is a symptom of terminal failure of LCD screens. Most common in laptops, monitors, and TVs. Problem only gets worse with time with more lines appearing, then expanding to cover a whole side of the screen. 30 - 50% normally.

I have a used dell laptop. It wouldn't boot so I went into the boot sequence utility. It has the primary boot path as NIC CARDBUS. I wen to change it and there is a password on it. I have no idea

The most common way that most of us know on how to reset or clear the BIOS password is to

physically remove the power from the computer by disconnecting the power plug and then

removing Cmos battery for 30 minutes from the motherboard.

You need to open the PC case, then look for a 20mm (3/4") shiny lithium button cell.

some motherboards cmos batteries are soldered in

Another way is to reset the clear CMOS jumper on the motherboard itself.

Both of the 2 methods mentioned works because most motherboards use a battery to sustain the

BIOS/CMOS settings for the motherboards PROM chip.

So by cutting off the battery power, the BIOS/CMOS settings will be erased.

cmos battery Under the keyboard or bottom of laptop -

If you are working on a laptop computer the location of the dipswitch

(almost never a jumper) can be under the keyboard or on the bottom of the laptop in a compartment such as the memory compartment.

Dell adamo 13 when using the keyboard on 1 comes21 ,q-wq,on a - sa,z-xz

You will need to change the laptop keyboard, go to www.ebay.com Type: make and model of laptop, and refine search to keyboard. But it would not hurt to attach a external keyboard to be sure.

Inspiron turns on but not monitor

That is good, it proves the problem is in the laptop display, the most likely issue is the inverter board, "located just below the LCD screen" the other less likely is the backlight just behind the LCD display.

Forgot administrator password can't get in

1.you can go into safe mode (F8 at logo when booting up) and enter as administrator and then go to accounts and change windows password and that's with XP. I haven't forgotten password for a pc before but can enter any XP pc in safe if the owner hasn't gone into safe mode and designated a password for "administrator" and usually only have a password for the user account but never have tried on Vista or Win7.
2.if that does not work, you can use software to reset the windows password I know a windows password tool just like below Windows Password Key 8.0 http://www.lostwindowspassword.com

I have a dell inspiron 2200 and on start up it

First if you are able to see windows logon then it restart again and again then it is windows system files issue for that you need to repair windows with windows disk. You can also try system system restore in safe mode if you are able to enter in safe mode. for that when you power up the computer press F8 key then enter in safe mode. Then go to startmenu->all programs->acessaries->system tools->system restore. Then set it to previous date. But if you are not able to see windows logo on startup Then reconnect RAM memory. When you power up the computer press F1 or F2 or del or ALt+F2 key to enter in bios. then load optimal defaults settings. Also disable SATA in IDE configuration then save settings and check. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

How to replace an ignitor in a monitor 2200

Is this a reference to a screen Inverter for a Dell Inspiron 2200 Notebook PC?

If so the Inverter is not an ignitor. It is a converter.
Converts electricity from the laptop for the LCD screen, and Backlight.

This is Dell Support > Inspiron 2200 Notebook PC > Service Manual,

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins2200/en/SM/index.htm

Click on Display.

The screen Inverter is located behind the Display Bezel, and at the bottom of the LCD screen.
Just to take a look at it's location scroll down to step 12. Lift the display assembly out of the computer base.

The LCD screen is pointed out by the number 4.
At the bottom of the LCD screen is an Orange rectangle. This is part of the screen Inverter circuit board.

This shows the screen Inverter in more detail,

http://www.batterycentury.com/dell-inspiron-2200-inverter-p-185186.html

Tips from me. Expanding on what Dell Support states, and doesn't state.

1) Remove ALL power from the laptop. Remove the AC adapter (Charger) and Battery.

2) I would lay a clean soft towel on the table you're working on, and the laptop on the towel.
Helps to prevent scratching the laptop, and the table.

3) Use a multi-compartment container for the various screws you will remove.
Label each compartment for the area the screw/s come out of.

If no multi-compartment container is available you can substitute with a clean egg carton.
Label each egg holder.

SOME screws look VERY similar to other screws. Do NOT mix them up.

4) Laptop display opened as far as it will go.
The first screw you remove (Philips head screw) is for the Ground wire.
Grounds the Display Assembly to the body of the laptop.
(Steps 1 , 2, and 3)

5) Next you remove an Electro Magnetic Interference shield.
Four Philips head screws. The end of the EMI shield is then lifted up, on the side opposite of the LCD screen.
The end that is away the LCD screen.
This is because there are two tabs on the LCD screen side.
(Steps 4 and 5. The FRONT of the EMI shield is towards you. Towards the Front of the laptop)

6) Disconnect the white wire from the Mini PCI Card.
(Step 6)

7) Close the display. Turn the laptop over.
In Step 8 you're shown two Philips head screws to remove. If you look at the body of the laptop close to the screw holes, you will see the letter D.
Represents Display.
(Steps 7 and 8)

8) I hold my arm across the two holes when turning the laptop over. Hand on one hole, and arm covers the other hole. When the laptop is close to the table slowly slide your hand back. This should let one screw fall to the table. Then slowly move your arm, and let the other screw drop.

A lot better than picking up screws that bounced off the table onto the floor.

There are two Philips head screws to remove from the back of the laptop.
These are shown in Step 9. The letter D is near each screw on the back.
(Step 9)

Once you start removing one of these screws, the Display Assembly becomes loose.
Support the Display Assembly with one hand while removing the screw/s.
Failure to support the Display Assembly could result in damage to the Display Cable, and Mini PCI cable.

9) In Step 10 you are directed to pull up on a pull tab for the Display Cable.
The Display Cable is a FFC.
Flat Flex Cable.
It ends in a small white rectangular connector, which is plugged into the motherboard.

The 'pull tab' is a piece of cloth, that is attached to the FFC's connector.
I gently ease up on the pull tab, WHILE easing up one end of the white connector.
I then ease up on the other end.
This is a gentle operation. Do not yank up on the pull tab.

10) In Step 11 you are directed to remove the Mini PCI Card wire FROM the body of the laptop.
Observe the way the wire is routed through the laptop, and the clips. The cable is threaded through the body of the laptop.
You MUST reroute the wire back into the same routing, when reinstalling.
(You may wish to make notes, and a drawing, and perhaps a digital photo or two)

11) Lift the Display Assmebly up, and out. Lay it carefully on it's back on the towel.
(LCD screen side up)

12) Display Bezel
The Display Bezel is the thin plastic frame in front of the LCD screen.
Resembles a picture frame.

It is held onto the Display Cover, (Plastic top cover of laptop), with tabs, and 6 Philips head screws.
These tabs are extruded from the bezel itself, so they are PLASTIC. They are on the outside edge of the Display Bezel.

There are 4 screws across the Top, and a 1 screw in EACH bottom corner.
These screws have a rubber type of cover over them.
The Screw Cover is stuck to the head of the screw with a type of rubber cement.

This means if you gently pry the screw cover off, and set it aside, there is a Good chance you can reuse it again. Stick it back in place when you reassemble.
I use a computer pick. Looks like a very thin ice pick. Perhaps you have a similar tool of some sort.
(You can also use a small flat tip Jewelers screwdriver)

Yes, lots of fun. The Screw Covers like to stick to your fingers when you go to lay them aside. They also stick to the tool.

Remove the 6 Display Bezel screws.

As stated the Display Bezel has tabs, or protrusions going around it's outside edge. These tabs snap into place when the Display Bezel is installed.
They also snap, or pop, when the Display Bezel is being removed.

On the Bottom side of the Display Bezel, AND in the Middle, ease the Inside edge of the Display Bezel up a little with a fingertip. Use caution as you fingernail will be next to the LCD screen.
(This is why tech's wear a type of rubber glove. Helps to protect the laptop)

Once the inside/middle edge of the bottom of the Display Bezel is lifted up a little, ease another fingertip under. Move this fingertip towards one side until the tabs pop.
Ease your fingertip towards the other side.

With the bottom of the Display Bezel loose, go to one side. Left, or Right doesn't matter.
Start in the middle of the Display Bezel on the side, and ease a fingertip under the frame of the Display Bezel. Loosen it's tabs.
Do the same for the other side.

{ The Display Bezel is made of space-age plastic. Pretty TOUGH stuff. Use care when removing the
Display Bezel, but don't freak out when you hear the snapping sound of the tabs releasing. It will sound as though you are breaking it, but you aren't }

Note the Latch at the top. The Display Bezel has a slot that the Latch goes through.
The Display Bezel is slid to one side to ease the Display Bezel off, and away from the Latch.

13) You are now looking at the screen Inverter at the bottom of the LCD screen.
{It isn't part of the LCD screen. It just is mounted Under the LCD screen}

Note the wires that go to the screen Inverter, and their connectors.
Note that they are different from each other. You can't mix them up.

For additional questions please post in a Comment.

Hello mi problem is wen

Your hard drive's Master Boot Record might be the problem. If it was corrupted then the bios will not see a bootable hard drive.

Three things you have to do in order to solve this.

1. purchase a 2.5" external enclosure, remove the hard drive and put it in there.
2. purchase another 2.5" hard drive for the laptop and reinstall Windows.
3. once the reinstall is done, plug the enclosure into the laptop by the usb cable and copy your data to the new hard drive.
