Every time I turn it

After months of use, your printer might get the habit of stopping in the middle of a page and showing "Hardware Error 0502" on the LCD display. If you leave the printer alone for a while, it might start printing again. Then again, it might not. Pretty annoying.

The Lexmark support site will let you power off, remove the power cord for 30 seconds, take out the cartridges and fiddle with some encoder strip. This whole procedure might take you up to 30 minutes and it will not help (been there, done that).

On the multi function machine seems to be a coating on the metal rod that the cartridges travel on. Just wipe the rod with a Kleenex and the problem seems to go away. Somehow it presents a drag on the cartridges and causes an error.

Clean that with a paper towel. The towel will be black from ink residue, but you will be able to print again.

Cannot cancel document from queue

I'm going to assume you're using XP. I've not seen this problem yet with Vista or Windows 7, which handle the print queue differently. Sometimes the print queue gets corrupted, and a job gets "stuck" and you can't delete it. You can get rid of it this way:

  1. Click "Start" on the task bar, then "Run...".
  2. In the "Run" dialog box, type "cmd" (without the quotes) and enter.
  3. Enter the following commands as shown in the cmd.exe window that opens:
  • net stop spooler
  • del %systemroot%\system32\spool\printers\*.shd
  • del %systemroot%\system32\spool\printers\*.spl
  • net start spooler
  • exit
These steps delete the corrupted print queue, so the ghost print job will be gone. (In the commands above, "%systemroot%" is an environment variable that is filled in for you by Windows. Type it as shown.)

Microsoft has a knowledge base article which suggests using notepad to put these steps into a command file, a text file with a ".cmd" extension. Then you can just type the filename in the Run... dialog box and do less typing. This is handy if you find you need to clear the queue this way more than once in a while.

The no workin he no want to prin

Hello.

I'm figuring that you are trying to print with a cable connected to your computer.

If there are no jobs in the print queue, be certain that your USB cable is snug.

If still a problem and there are jobs in the print queue, go to Printers and Faxes and delete your printer icon.

Note: Here's how to delete a printer icon in Windows 7:

1. Open Printers by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Hardware and Sound, and then clicking Printers.
2. Right-click the printer that you want to remove, and then click Delete.

If you can't delete the printer, right-click it again, click Run as administrator, and then click Delete. Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Disconnect the USB cable.

Restart your computer.

Reconnect the USB to your computer.

Your computer should see your printer. Install the printer driver.

If still a problem, either your USB port on your PC, or the USB printer cable is probably faulty.

Hope this helps.

I have an X5150 and windows 7 states no driver .

Lexmark's support site describes a detailed solution for your problem. The general approach is that the Lexmark Vista driver will work in Windows 7 for the X5150 if you follow these steps:

1. Disconnect the USB cable, and uninstall the existing driver using the following method (NOT the Control Panel/Device Manager, Printers/Faxes page, or Add/Remove Programs links):
A. Find the Lexmark 5150 Series on your Start Menu program listing, then go to Tools, then select Uninstall.
B. Click on the Yes button, and then be patient while the process completes.
C. Restart the computer with the USB cable still disconnected.

2. Download the appropriate Vista (32 or 64 bit) driver from this link at Lexmark.

3. Reconnect the USB cable.

4. Install the downloaded Vista driver normally and restart the computer. According to Lexmark, this will work.

Hope that's helpful.

Error message 502

Hardware Error 0502 on LCD Display
Check the encoder strip on the printer. (This is a clear strip running the length of the printer, above or behind the cartridge carrier.) Do the following:
1. Switch off the printer using the power button.
2. Disconnect the power cable from the back of the Lexmark X5100 / X6100 Series.
3. Leave the power cable disconnected for 30 seconds.
4. Slide the cartridge carrier to the middle of the printer by taking the top part of the belt and moving it gently to the right.
5. Take out both cartridges.
6. Place an index finger on the encoder strip on either side of the cartridge carrier.
7. On the back of the cartridge carrier, there is a small slot that the encoder strip fits into. Slightly push the encoder strip down and then back up to get it into the slot.
8. Lightly press the strip first to the rear and then forward, if necessary.
9. Clean the encoder strip with a dry tissue. Also clean the contacts of the printer.
10. Reconnect the power cable and switch the printer on again.
11. Perform the hardware test without cartridges first and then with both cartridges.*
12. Make a standalone copy.
13. If the copy is satisfactory, repeat the test once to confirm that the error is gone.
