No. The coin battery only powers the memory for the camera settings such as date & time. I suspect you have a chip failure and will need to send the camera off for repair. I know, I know,.... these repair places are a rip-off because they quote a flat rate for repair, even if it's a $3.00 chip set.

I found the answer on another site and was able to fix my camera myself. E24 means your LCD display has come unplugged. What happens if you rotate the screen too much you tighten up the wire and it pulls the connection out of its socket. There ar 4 screws on hedispla, unscrew ad take th back off the screen. Unwind the screen until the wires loosen up. Replug in the loose connector. Resecure the back

The Canon G1 was my first digital camera, years ago. When this camera was sold it came with a 16 Mb CF card. The manual refers to CF card sizes from 8 Mb up to 128 Mb and the number of photos you can take with each size card. However, I bought my camera together with a 1GB "micro drive" (tiny hard drive in a CF card format) and although it wasn't "supported" by Canon, it worked fine. I also used a regular 1GB CF card in it (after I lost the microdrive card). If you want to use a card larger than 1GB with this camera, test/borrow a card to make sure it works before you buy one. Camera stores always have a variety of cards (used to demonstrate the cameras they are selling) that you can put in your camera and test before you decide which card to buy.

Check you manual .. is there a 'back up' battery (coin cell ??) .. if not then the battery is dead (rechargeable batteries do not last for ever) .. try a brand new battery

The card may be corrupted and unusable. Try with a new SD Card. If that doesn't work, you need Canon Service. Try formatting it in the computer, add images and see if you can see the images in the camera.

If the batteries are the same age as the camera, they are probably worn out. Try replacing them.
