workme3,

You have bad convergence circuitry. I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4220499-change_projection_tv_convergence_ics which explains the problem, how to correct it and where to get the parts at the best price.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating. Please consider a testimonial.

I havea KP-51WS500 when i

These sets have a history of bad picture tubes, the blue is most common, there is a way to without replacement of any parts to attempt to correct this.

you have to remove the entire grill on the front below the screen; it is usually held in either by two screws at the front (under little plastic caps) and or screws on the back on either side.

The grill will pull out and is engaged with large plastic tabs at the top; with it out since the front keyboard is mounted into it you lift and tilt it to the left. Remove the inspection plate behind it: look for the screen/focus block (see attached photo) and note the six controls: three are screen and three are focus----do not touch the focus ones.

They are usually marked (may be hard to see: r,g,blue) You want to locate the BLUE SCREEN CONTROL and with the set on on a unused video input turn the screen control SLOWLY (usually to the left) until you see no blue in the background; if you do it correctly all you should see is the Video 1 etc.

The idea here is to lower the blue screen setting just slightly-if it works you may only be buying some time as these sets are prone to problems like this.

I have done this several times and many see a few more years of use before they have to be replaced.

Let me know before you attempt this if any questions.

Instructions for replacing the bulbs

The "bulbs" for a KP-51WS500 are 3 picture tubes--they are no longer available from Sony. The only way to get one is remove it and send it out for REBUILD--very expensive and usually not worth doing..

All these sets had bad tubes--a lot of them had the wrong tubes installed when they were sold---I know as I replaced dozens of them when these sets were still under Sony warranty--

Tell me what problem you have and I will try to help you---the most common problem is the screen will go bright blue, red , green and or set will shut off.

Sometimes you will get a blue cast (blue tube seems to be the one that goes most) to the picture with faint curved trace lines.

If you have this kind of trouble there is something you can do to try to correct it---it requires no replacement of parts--only some adjustments

If this information has helped you rate this solution as I do this here for free.

Sanyo flat screen green indicator light comes on

I had a similar problem with my 42 in Philips LCD HDTV.

Here was the problem. My Power Supply Board had several bad capacitors. I opened my TV (warranty was expired of course) and found four bulged capacitors on the PSB. Many major electronics companies Philips/Magnavox, Sony, Panasonic, and others were sold capacitors that failed in 2-5 years instead of 10-20. The capacitors fail prematurely due to a lack of preservatives. Unfortunately, they were installed in all sorts of devices and cause a wide range of failure problems.

Here are some options for you.

1. Have it fixed by a professional $$$$$$$??????? (Is it under warranty?)

2. Open your TV and find PSB. (The board that the power cord plugs into) Check for faulty caps. If you find some (bulged or leaking) bad caps replace the entire board. The entire board costs around $250 right now because they are in high demand right now. They can be found at tv-part.com but supplies are limited. I would definitely shop around though.

3. Remove and then replace individual faulty caps. This takes some soldering skill.

Caps are inexpensive and if you can take care of it yourself it will save you hundreds.

This may be your problem. If you determine that it might be.

I have a Tip/How TO tutorial on this site that may also help. It gives step by step instructions for replacing caps on PSB #715t2432-2. If this is your board you are in luck. It's called: Fixing the Philips Turns/shuts off on its own problem. I'm working on uploading pictures to help guide people though the process as well. Let me know if I can do anything to help.

Hope this helps and if it does please rate it accordingly. Good luck.

The picture looks doubled with

Most likely is it is a convergence problem---this model uses two of the STK-392-560 IC'S for this---total parts cost should on EBAY be under 25 dollars.

See attached photos and if your set looks ANYTHING like them, it is a convergence problem.

I have green arched

If the lines are slanted up from left to right and spaced several inches apart, you are seeing the vertical retrace line. In that case, you may want to turn down the screen voltage on the green CRT. The instructions for making this adjustment are given in the service manual.

It should take just a small tweak to hide the retrace line. If adjusting the screen voltage won't do the job, check for a leaky or improperly biased CRT driver transistor, then compare the video waveforms with one of the other CRTs to make sure the voltage at the vertical blanking interval is correct.

In the worst case, there is a problem with the CRT. This is generally accompanied by occasional arcing (bright green flash or the set shuts down with an error code flashing on the power light).

Do I need to use a digital converter with this

If you want to watch digital TV then probably yes, through the scart socket or better, as this set has no Digital Receiver built in it.

Hello I have several (7) blue lines in an arch

The Blue CRT ( Picture Tube ) has a short. You may be able to do a temp fix by turning down the Blue CRT drive level ( Located behind the front speaker grille )untill the lines disappear. But its only a temp fix. The Blue CRT will most likely need replacement.
