This sounds like a problem i had at the shop some time ago. If i got the right case history. this might be a bad tube. I Found in my case. it was the green tube.. also a shorted ic 7201 and a bad resistor 7301. It might be another tube. this might be other issues but without examing it this is my best guess :)

It sounds like it had mainboard problems probably in addition to the IC... Can you still return those convergence chips? I hope so, I would recommend you just replace the unit, it may have even more problems. A lot of times when convergence ships go it takes other components with it. Will keep researching this for you though.

Yikes, you can get into tv service mode by turning the tv off and pressing "display, 5, volume up and then power. From there though you may want the service manual for the TV which can be found:
http://www.eserviceinfo.com/download.php?fileid=20634Then go down the page to the part where it says to download click here... has it link for it
Usually it costs money but I found it there for free for you.

When i turn it on
This is one of a group of sets that had bad picture tubes (RED, GREEN AND BLUE).
The tubes are no longer available from Sony and only available on a rebuild basis---very expensive.
There is something easy that requires no parts you can try in an attempt to cure it. Takes about 15 minutes and I can tell you how and what to do.
If this is of interest to you rate this solution as very helpful and comment here and I will assist you.

ssarnia,
The error code says you have a problem in the high voltage section of the TV. Most likely the flyback transformer is bad. If you are not an electronic tech the easiest fix would be to replace the D board. They are available at

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

I have a Sony kp-51ws500
The Blue CRT has shorted and shutting the set down. You can verify this by simply sliding the Blue CRT drive board off the neck without unplugging any of its wires, Just let it hang suspended and then try powering up the set. If the set stays on you will know the Blue CRT needs replacement.
Where can you obtain the STK-392-560 IC's for the
On EBAY select advanced search, then search by seller----sewsales55 is SUBURBAN ELECTRONICS in Maryland. Chips are located on deflection board, usually to the left as seen from the back.

Blue screen shuts off
THIS set is one of a group with bad picture tubes, blue is most common---tubes only available on rebuild basis and expensive. There is another way---I can tell you how to try to make a manual adjustment that may cure the problem--takes ten minutes and easy to do. Let me know if you want to know what to do. I am here to help SD TECH
When tv is turned on,
This is simple--this model is prone to bad picture tubes--blue is most common--screen goes bright blue and set shuts off--set is detecting too much current being drawn--forget replacing the tube--very expensive as only available on rebuild basis.
Here is what to try:
1) you need to remove entire plastic grill under screen--held in one of two ways--either several screws on back on either side or two screws at bottom front under caps.
2) With it free, pull up from bottom and tilt entire grill to the left--the front controls are mounted in it and you will need to undo some ties that hold it to get it out of the way.
3.) Grill has tabs at top that tuck in and you lift it from bottom.
4.) Remove small inspection plate behind grill--a few screws.
5.) Directly behind grill you will find a square black plastic block with 6 shafts (they are controls) One row left to right will be marked Focus--do not touch those. The other row will be marked screens. Look closely (green is the middle one) as each will have r,g,b in small black letters.
6.) In your case LOCATE THE BLUE SCREEN CONTROL. Best way to do this is take set to unused video input and turn blue SCREEN down (usually to the left and less than 1/4 turn) until the blue just goes away---on blank input you should only see VIDEO 1 etc in green.
Do not turn down too much--just enough so blue is not there--no blue background or curved lines.
THIS MAY ONLY BUY SO EXTRA LIFE OUT THE SET AS ALL THESE HAD ALL THREE TUBES HAVE THIS PROBLEM.
You only have seconds if the set is shutting down, Once you get the blue down enough set will stay on.
Take to regular channel and with color all the way off--you should have a black and white screen, adjust just a little if needed.
I have done this many times and most get another year or more out of the set--if one of the tubes is causing this (very likely) sooner or later it may get worse and return to the point where adjusting does not help--when this happens replace the set.
If this has told you something that helps you or you did not know rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.
If you have questions let me know BEFORE you attempt it.
REGARDS, SD TECH
