I need to reboot to factory settings on an old
Older gateways used to come with a recovery CD that would rebuild the machine back to factory settings. The alternative (which can be a little more difficult) is to use an XP setup CD and format and reinstall the operating system. The downside of that method is that you would need an XP key and you would also need to manually reinstall the hardware drivers like the sound card, network card, etc.
No sound from my pc speakers
You don't have the drivers loaded for your motherboard. Go to the home page of the company that makes your system then go to the DRIVERS section. Find your make and model and download and install the drivers. You may have to reboot your system for the drivers to kick in.

If you have a back-up on your computer you should be able to press CTRL F10 or F11 depending on your model. If you do not, you will have to relaod it yourself or have someone reload it for you.

If its the boot up password (for windows to start) there is no way to get around it. You have to contact your IT guy there and they can get into the bios and unlock it that way. You may have a tech support hotline to call usually on your computer or nearby..

If you notice your disk drive having a partition for recovery, you may have an option to do system recovery from boot up.
Most desktops have this option during the boot up process. So before windows logo appears on Startup, press F11 key.
This procedure will restore your computer's system from the very first time you used it. So, better back up all the important files and documents before doing this.
I am trying to restore my emachine t5082 back to
can you copy the disk onto a new folder on the desktop? if you can then there is no problem with the disk...you dont mention how old your computer is but if may be worth your while getting a dvd lens cleaner.does it read other disks ok? if so you might have a damaged cd and will have to look for a new disk. if the disk is not reading from your drive...ask a friend with a new computer ( clean drive lens ect ) and ask them to copy it for you.as long as it does not have a copy protection on it you will be ok, if it does you might have to ask the supplier of you e-machine for a new disk but they will prob ask for a charge

Try this: Restart the computer. When it starts to come up you will most likely see a screen that tells you how to get to the Bios setup. Go there and see if there is a way to change the boot order to boot from the drive that has Windows on it.
DVD Drive Booting
You said you've already done it, but just check your BIOS again to make sure the DVD drive is the first bootable device. You can usually find this by pressing DEL as soon as the computer starts up, then searching for "Boot Order", usually found under an "Advanced Options" menu in the BIOS. Of course, this differs between every manufacturer and model.
If you can't find it, or it's set to the DVD drive, there's something else you could try. Most newer computers will display during post something along the lines of "PRESS F12 TO SELECT BOOT DEVICE" - again the wording will vary between models. Search your screen for anything that looks similar, and press the appropriate key; you should be presented with a list of drives, so choose the one you want to boot from.
If you've done this and it still doesn't boot from the disc, then the disc is very likely not bootable (Or your DVD drive is malfunctioning).
Hi, my computer will not boot giving a bootmgr is
Hi,
No you can't recover a system using another recovery partition from another computer as the internal components maybe different.
Have you tried to go into the BIOS and resetting the boot order?
If you have not then to get into the BIOS either hit Esc or Del as the computer starts up, enter the BIOS and look for Boot or Boot Options and set the hard drive as the first boot device, hit F10, save the changes and exit.
The computer will restart and hopefully boot from the HDD.
If you have done all this and the HDD is set to boot first then the operating system is corrupt and you will need to recover the system.
Hope this helps, regards.
