Sanyo DWM-390 DVD Player Questions & Answers
I have a Sanyo DWM-390
3 possible solutions to your problem starting with the easiest:
1. The audio/video cable is bad. It is possible the video side of the cable has a short.
2. Inputs on the back of the TV are mislabeled or aren't matching up with how you are connecting or using the inputs. Feel free to post a picture of the back of the unit with your cords attached and I can tell you for sure.
3. Some dvd players require you to select which video output mode to use. Most of the newer ones come defaulted to hdmi output and might need a menu selection changed to output using component or composite outputs (whichever you are using). Composite will just have the red and white connector for audio and a single yellow connector for video. Component uses the same 2 audio connectors and then red, green, blue conectors for the video.
Let us know more detail and I can help further.
I have a dvd set.
FBI warning on disks are normal and is part of content on dvd, this has nothing to do with the fact that it stops playing (just coincidence) there might be a defect on the disc or scratches
My grandfather cant remember the
Forgotten the parental control password? there is a way around this. According to the user manual (page 34) for this particular model:
Enter "788444" even if 4 digits "----" appears, then press [ENT]
to clear the current password.
Enter a new password and set the parental lock level again if required.
Note: DVD video discs may or may not respond to the parental lock
settings. Make sure this function works with your DVD video
discs.
You need the original unit's remote to do this. It cannot be done without it.
There is a .pdf of the user manual online.

I hope this helps a tad.
Need remote
The best bet is to contact Sanyo and to obtain a replacement remote, you can do that either by contacting Sanyo direct or finding their closest authorised repair agent. I don't reccomend getting a universal one as the majority of the time, they do not work. Be prepared to find the remote may be very expensive in some cases. I hope this helps.
Can't Reprogram the TV Guardian code
Forgotten Parental Control password can be bypassed/cleared by entering "788444" even if 4 digits "----" appears, then press ENT to clear the current password. You can then enter a new parental control password.
Dvd player
I assume the above problem is on all DVD's. Generally speaking, dialogue soundtrack is located in the Front Center speaker. From your description of the problem I would double check all the wiring to the front center speaker you have connected to your audio system. If there is no front center speaker, check to see how your audio system is set to handle the front center speaker . . . it should be set to "Phantom" or "none". On the other hand you're relying just on your TV speakers and you're not getting any dialog I would change, under the Settings of the DVD player, the Digital Out settings to PCM.
DVD Stuck in Player
While the above problem is not in the manual, I would try pushing and holding down the Open/Close buttton for an extended period to see if the unit will 'unlock' itself.
Subtitles on Sanyo DVD Player Model DMW-380
For the DVM-390 model, the above problem can be due to the TV Guardian (TVG) mode. I would go to the intial setting options and under Language turn the TVG mode to "Off" and see if that allows the subtitle languages to appear on screen.
DVD Tray is locked
Push and hold down the Open/Close button until "UN-LOC" appears on the FL display (or "Disc Tray Unlocked" appears on the TV screen).
