Switch on the projector in standby mode. press the HOLD button on the remote for 10 secs. the projector will come out of protection and you are good to go! ensure that u replace a new lamp! This can be done only with the NEC remote!

Ok, I realize this machine is already EOL, but if anyone else runs into this issue, I found the answer here.

1. Press the "Utility" button
2. Press the "Access" button
3. Press * four times
4. Press the "Maint" soft button on the touch screen
5. Press the "Service Mode" soft button on the touch screen

Once you are in there, you can reset the admin password by pressing the "Administrator # Initialize" soft button, and that will reset the admin password back to the default 00000000. Evidently, this works for a few other models of NEC copiers as well.
