Idiots. He said WITHOUT a remote

It's for the fan only. Some time fan not rotate freely. It need to clean or replace.

Check the ballast module. It controls the lamp operation

If projectors aren't turned off correctly they blow the lamp as they need to cool slowly.

probably needs filters cleaning or a new lamp replacement.

My VT440 says this when it gets to it's pre-defined service life. (a certain amount of hours)

As long as you pop the filters out regularly and clean them (I use a vacuum cleaner) you shouldn't need to replace them.

After that, go into the projector options (with the remote control) and reset the factory defaults... otherwise it has no idea that you have actually changed the darn thing and keeps complaining no matter what! =-]

Problem is not clear. Are you trying to use remote of the projector to move the slides? And slides from what? A PowerPoint presentation?
If you are using a computer, use the computer to change what is shown. You cannot use the remote of the projector for that.
Provide more information to help you better.

select Menu>>>[default]>>>[Clear Lamp Hour Meter]. do this after replacing the lamp.

There is no provision and adjustments to make the text size only to your projector. Picture as a whole can be adjusted with MAGNIFY (+) or (--) button. OK.

When using a special cable, pins 1, 4 and 7 of the PC control connector on the rear of the projector are used to receive RS232 serial commands from the PC to control various functions remotely in the projector.

Hi, you definitely need the remote control to turn on the projector, without it you cannot operate the projector......

Look at the photo above. Find the small grill on the right, you can just see it in the photo. Directly below is a narrow cover with a cutout for your finger nail. Insert finger nail and push down. Out it slides.

I assume you mean it has no power? This is fairly common with the NEC VT460,VT470,VT595. The power board/Power Supply has failed. I can usually repair or replace the power supply for $170
If you're familiar with electronics you can try checking the main power fuse by removing all the screws on the bottom of the projector & taking the cover off. The fuse is located just next to the ac plug. Test it using a continuity tester with long testing probes. If it's ok then the power board is bad & needs repair.
If it's bad replace with the same type fuse. You can bring the fuse to Radio Shack for identification or look on the power board next to the fuse holder for fuse amperage.

I don't have the specific incantations for this, but work through the setup menus and you should see a series of selections for ceiling/floor, front/back etc. This is selectable in that fashion.

I will try to locate the specific menu in the meantime.
