Based on the model number WS65511, this set has a self check.

Turn on and when green power light goes out:
On the front of the set press and hold BOTH the MENU and INPUT buttons for at least 5 seconds and then release both buttons.

Power light will blink a two digit "error" code.

The most common is 2 blinks, a pause and 2 blinks. Set will repeat the error code at least 5 times.

Let me know what error code you find and I will tell you what it means, I hope you find it is 2,2 as that is the most easy to fix.

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Below are more details for both items. Also, complete repair kits with instructions and repair support are avail from site such as www.TvRepairKits.com Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone outProjection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem. Common Symptoms include....

• Screen looks 3D
• Colors don't line up
• One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
• Screen is bowed or warped.
• TV shuts off after powering on. The power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.

After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images. i think if you pull the back cover off it will have a few sets of leds that will tell you whats wrong. be careful not to touch any of the high voltage circuit boards

This model uses a single convergence IC chip----
STK-393-110.

The chip needs to be replaced and there are about a dozen light blue resistors in front of it that need to be checked also.

Considering you can buy the part on Ebay for about 12 dollars plus shipping---if you or someone you know can do it for you, you can save the set and a lot of money.

I just today received a comment from someone who got the instructions tell me the repair went perfect and he now has a working TV again for a fraction of what a shop wanted to repair it.

Thats caused by weak capacitors on the DM board which cannot recharge after the power has been restored. Very inexpensive repair . The WS48511 - WS55511 DM repair kit from www.tvrepairworld.com has the capacitors and the CD with repair instructions which should solve the issue of the steady blinking green light.

This can be due to poor solder joints that develop over a period of time with constant heating and cooling thereby the solder becomes DRY and so non conductive. So if you can make a good observation and when the set starts up if the TV is tapped on the board then this is confirmed. Use a good soldering iron to carefully solder such dry solder joints, take precaution not to bridge the connection.Secondly it can be due to heating up that thermally shut the circuit. If so use a good cooling when the fault occurs or if after the rear panel is removed and cooled by a fan the set tends to work more the fan can be either of these mentioned.You can simulate and confirm by heating with a hair dryer.
