Unfortunately this recorder model is designed with flash memory and once the files are erased they are gone. There are some companies that do specialize in flash memory recovery (Olympus is not one of them). You can go to google and search for flash memory recovery specialists. However this is a very costly process as it involves sending the device to these companies for them to do the recovery process.

I had the same problem. I downloaded the instruction pamphlet at http://www.olympus.co.jp/en/support/imsg/vtrek/download/manual/ws/man_ws100_ws200s.pdf and reformatted the recorder. It seems to work fine now.

Formatting the Recorder (FORMAT)
If you format the recorder, all function settings will return to their defaults.
All files stored in the recorder will be deleted.
If you have important files that you want to save, connect the recorder to a computer and
transfer those files from the recorder to the computer before formatting the device.
1 Press the MENU button.
2 Press the FF or REW button to choose “FORMAT”.
3 When the PLAY button is pressed, “nO” is displayed.
4 Press FF or REW to select “yES”, and press the
PLAY button.
After “ARE yOU SURE” is displayed, “nO” will be displayed.
5 Press FF or REW to select “yES”, and press the
PLAY button.
“DONE” displays when formatting ends.
s It may take up to several tens of seconds to finish the initialization. Do not remove the battery or detach
the battery compartment from the recorder during that time. Otherwise data may be damaged.
s Never format the recorder from a PC.
s When the recorder is formatted, all the stored data, including locked files, are erased.

Question edited for a lot more clarity. Question moved from Olympus Camera category. It sounds like the water damage may have caused the down volume button to malfunction. While it may be possible to fix the button, it would require opening up the device and performing some troubleshooting, which can be difficult if you don't have experience with electronics. I would recommend taking the recorder to a professional repair shop or contacting Olympus customer support to see if they can assist you with repairs. If the device is still under warranty, they may even be able to provide a replacement.

I think you are going to have to run the pertinent software in compatibility mode, probably for XP or Windows 7. You could try running the XP driver on an XP machine if you have one collecting dust. That is, if the driver exists in the links at the old posts below. This recorder has been around from at least 2009. Alternatively, you can try the Olympus chat to inquire if a current driver might work on it. I'm under the impression that installation of any driver for the device is a little tricky at the best of times. Purchase a new one. They are inexpensive and liquid damage is sometimes not repairable.

It could be full. try clearing some space.

I suggest you attempt to reset the device which should bring back default settings. If you wish to do a reset, go to Device Menu, go to Reset Settings, click + to select start then click OK.
