Im sure you have tryed the brightness on the monitor?? if not do so then if thast dont work go to the back of the monitor and try to adj the screen control and bring up the main screen ever so slightly.

This could be one of three components:
1. The video card
2. Video Cable (cable from the monitor to the computer)
3. The Monitor

The way I would determine this is:


I would try to plug this monitor into another computer that you know works with other monitor. If this is a home computer and you don't have another computer to test this take it to a friends house. Use a different cable to connect the to computer and power if possible. Then switch out to the old hardware (e.g. power cable, video cable.) If all has been determined to work then it's probably the video card.


If you can do this at all I would suggest trying a new video cable they are cheap. Usually 10 bucks at the most or borrow on from someone else. If this is a DVI cable they are a little more expensive. VGA cables look like this btw http://www.networktechinc.com/cable-pc.html

Have you upgraded the memory?

nothing u need to open teh cabinet and remove the old one and connect the new one>and turn on pc>and if u have a cd with the agp card then run that>and it will automatically installed

I had the same problem, what i did is unplug it, wait for like 10 min, then plug in the wire and start it. It worked. Try it.

Go to your control panel, systems, hardware, device manager and see if the device is reconginzed. If there is a "!" by the DVD drive, there is a hardware issue or driver issue with the device.

my solution is to enter bios on both machines and disable lpt printer port and serial port these arn't that inportant then in windows device manager see if there is any triangles with yellow question markks against them next uninstall drivers to printers then re-install them if you have not got spy-ware on board go and get get yourself one and virus killer the 2 programs I use are AVG - Webroot these are brillent programs they stop alot of nasties run these then re-try printing from printers. good luck

Hi Sandysue, As I understand your problem, 1. The error could be caused by: memory, video, hardrive or drivers; 2. Windows by asking you to run CHKDSK /F has detected a possible problem with your harddrive; 3. It is possible that the reason you cannot go to DOS mode is because your harddrive is formatted in NTFS and not FAT332. There are a couple of ways on how to go about this but all would require that you have access to second PC: 1. Run a third party software (BartPE) that you will have to boot from your CD Drive or USB and run a disk checking utility; 2. Remove your hardrive and install it as a secondary master in the 2nd PC and run chkdsk or scandisk; 3. Remove your hardrive and install it in an external HD enclosure and connect using USB to the 2nd PC and run chkdsk or scandisk; 4. Remove your hardrive and install it either USB or as secondary master to the 2nd PC. Copy all your important files to the 2nd PC, and repartition/reformat. Reinstall to the eMachine and reinstall Windows. There is a possibility that even if you were able to run CHKDSK or Scandisk eventually your best bet would still be #4. If you have gained access to the inside of your eMachine PC, it would also be a good idea to remove/reinsert any cards and the memory stick(s). A little housekeeping would also be nice. Any computer would freeze either due to a hardware conflict or due to some software installed which is taking up all the resources and your PC stops responding. Have you made any changed recently? Installed any new hardware or software?

I would try the AMD web site. If still available, you will find one there.

Perhaps the monitor is faulty? Did you check that with a device known to work. Listen to Larry though, he is the Hardware Guru here at Fixya.

USB 2 and 3 are the data speed capability of the interface it is possible to connect a USB3 flashdrive into a usb2 socket all that will happen is the files will transfer slower than on a usb3 socket. Hope this was helpful.

Your machine is very short of power required for win 10, I would like to see at least 8 GB ram, and a faster processor, yours is at the bottom of tests. Perhaps you should look at a new machine with win 10 installed. You cannot upgrade xp to win 10. You will have to purchase a win 10 license, you missed the free upgrade period.
