Hi,
I've had the same problem, I went with a percolator since our water is hard and we calcify the heating element within about a year. Having the FCP-412 stop working has made me angry as well.

2nd, here is my 1 cent fix. Really, insert a penny under the thermostat. The delay that it takes to additionally heat the penny will increase the duration that the 1000 Watt element is on. You can experiment with other materials just make sure it isn't flammable (it's next to the element) and it is not too insulate (you want the thermostat to open the circuit some time after the start of the heating cycle (3-3:30 minutes).

do not fil the pot past 8 cups, you have to give some space for the water to circulate while running the cleaning solution.

I did replace the thermistor and it did fix the problem. However, you can't get the exact replacement, so I had to "McGyver" it to make it fit. The product is made by Therm-o-disc. The master supplier is Stancor. Newark distributes the Stancor thermistor. I bought the 160 and 170 degree ones, went with the 170 degree one.

There realy not much of a manual for this type of coffee maker. put water in to water line, put coffee in the metal basket, put the lid on the metal basket, put lid on the coffee maker, set it on the stove until it starts peculating let do it for 10-min then stop.

if the pot is leaking at or thru power indicator light, there is no repair. The spigot is not available. You can look on eBay for used similar urns.

on button again the 2hr is a safety

There is a thermostat in the bottom of the percolator that is broken. It would normally cut off the percolator heating element after the water reaches a certain temperature. It can be replaced but it takes a little skill. There is a video on eBay. If you want to just unplug the percolator, time it for 1 minute per cup.

All depends on how you like your coffee, And the size of cups you are using.

The standard is: 64oz. of water and 2oz to 3oz of coffee for 12 cups, That is about 5 to 6oz.of coffee per cup.
If you want a strong cup of coffee use 1.5 gal. of water and 9oz of coffee for 36 cups. If NOT use more water and less coffee.

REMEMBER, Don't let the coffee sit in your coffee brewer for long time.

It is no a cosmetic part and is there for a reason.
