97 f350 7.3 lack of power and has these codes p1298/ p1219. Any thoughts on what is wrong ?

Check battery voltage when idling. Could have vacuum leak if it runs a little rough, or dirty spark plugs. I'll look in nother manual for that code. don-ohio (:^)

P1298 Honda Description The Electric Load Detector (ELD) measures the main current flow and sends that signal to the Engine Control Module (ECM) to command the alternator charging system to get fuel efficiency and decrease the drag of the engine when starting.

code p1298 refers to electrical load sensor--circuit/voltage high===causes wiring--under hood fuse box/relay plate--electrical load sensor--ECM programming---ECM

I would suggest taking it to a Honda service centre to have it checked out asap.

Possible causes:
- 7.5 Amp fuse in under the dash fuse/ relay box.
- Repair open wire between 7.5 Amp fuse and ELD.
- Check for open wire between ECM/ PCM and ELD.
- Substitute a good-known ECM/ PCM and then recheck.

P1298 Electric Load Detector (ELD) Circuit High Voltage.
Fault:
- Check the No. 3 (7.5 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box.
- Wiring.
- ECM.

battery has a dead sell u need a new battery

did you get any egr failure codes? thats a sure sign the cat is going bad. egr valves never fail for the most part. i had same prob last year but kept getting egr codes. changed the cat and car runs great

Are you sure you wrote the correct code. According to Honda, P1298 is a high ELD circuit voltage. If what I just put is correct, Honda has a service bulletin as this is a common problem( it could be another fault, but this is the most likely choice).
The ELD has a bad solder joint. I have done several of these, you will need to replace the ELD, and this is how.

1 D/C the negative battery cable (make sure you know your radio code, it will be needed to use the radio again)
2 Unbolt the fuse box that is in the engine bay.
3 Attached to the fuse box underneath there is a plastic cover, remove this cover.
4 There is a 3 pin connector under this cover. Remove it
5 Flip the fuse box back over, there are 2 big fuses bolted down, a 40 A and a 80A
6 Under these fuses is the ELD, remove it and pull the bar that sticks out of it.
7 Stick the bar in the new ELD
8 Put everything back together. Do the idle learn (just idle the car for 10 minutes with no loads on such as radio, headlights etc..)


This is probably the first thing they will do if you bring it to Honda assuming the code you have is P1298.
